In Microsoft SQL Server, stored procedures are compiled into a query plan the first time they are run. At subsequent runs, they are sometimes recompiled from source, but not always. That is why they are called "pre-compiled".

What is precompiled stored procedure in SQL Server?

A stored procedure is a precompiled collection of Transact-SQL statements stored under a name and processed as a unit that you can call from within another Transact-SQL statement or from the client applications.

What does precompiled mean?

Filters. (computing) To compile in advance. 2. To do a preliminary conversion before doing the final conversion. The precompile phase sets up the source code, database, etc., in such a way that the final phase is performed faster.

Why stored procedure is secure?

Although SQL Server's stored procedures help with code security by hiding the implementation of the business logic and even protecting against some kinds of SQL injection attacks — primarily those that use an operator such as AND or OR to append commands onto a valid input parameter value, simply wrapping the code into ...

Why stored procedures are better?

where as stored procedure is compiled when it is submitted for the first time & this compiled content is stored in something called procedure cache, for subsequent calls no compilation, just execution & hence better performance than query.

SQL Procedure Interview Questions

Why SP is faster than query?

Stored procedures are precompiled and optimised, which means that the query engine can execute them more rapidly. By contrast, queries in code must be parsed, compiled, and optimised at runtime.

What is faster view or stored procedure?

In tests done by Grant Fritchey Scary DBA - Stored Procedures Are Not Faster Than Views, it was determined that, contrary to popular belief, the performance of SQL views and SQL stored procedures is fundamentally identical although they are "fundamentally different objects." Fritchey ran a few thousand executions of a ...

Can you SQL inject a stored procedure?

SQL injection is possible if the dynamic SQL inside the stored procedure is not handled properly.

Is stored procedure safe from SQL injection?

Some database programmers believe that by using stored procedures, their code are safe from SQL injection Attacks. That is not true because, if dynamic query is used inside the stored procedures and the dynamic query is constructed by concatenating the parameters it is at high risk of attack.

How is SQL injection prevention?

The only sure way to prevent SQL Injection attacks is input validation and parametrized queries including prepared statements. The application code should never use the input directly. The developer must sanitize all input, not only web form inputs such as login forms.

How does a precompiled header work?

When you create a new project in Visual Studio, a precompiled header file named pch. h is added to the project. ... The precompiled header is compiled only when it, or any files it includes, are modified. If you only make changes in your project source code, the build will skip compilation for the precompiled header.

Should you use precompiled headers?

Usage of precompiled headers may significantly reduce compilation time, especially when applied to large header files, header files that include many other header files, or header files that are included in many translation units.

Are precompiled headers worth it?

There are some really large projects out there where precompiled headers do make a huge difference. But if using them makes you life miserable for some reason or another (i.e. portability) and your project is not incredibly large.. I'd say skip them. The only obvious benefit is a slight decrease in compilation time.

What is precompiled in SQL?

The SQL precompiler scans each statement of the application program source and does the following things: Looks for SQL statements and for the definition of host variable names. Verifies that each SQL statement is valid and free of syntax errors. Validates the SQL statements using the description in the database.

What is parameter sniffing?

Parameter Sniffing is the process of looking to the first passed parameters values when compiling the stored procedure in order to create an optimal execution plan that fits these parameters values and use it for all values.

How do you solve a parameter sniffing?

1. Create SQL Server Stored Procedures using the WITH RECOMPILE Option.
2. Use the SQL Server Hint OPTION (RECOMPILE)
3. Use the SQL Server Hint OPTION (OPTIMIZE FOR)
4. Use Dummy Variables on SQL Server Stored Procedures.
5. Disable SQL Server Parameter Sniffing at the Instance Level.

Why are stored procedures not secure?

A non-dynamic sql stored procedure won't allow this, because the input parameter won't execute as extra sql. Parametrized SQL does take care of this, but technically stored procedures are still a little more secure, because the user accessing information in the table doesn't need Read Access.

What is 2nd order SQL injection?

Description: SQL injection (second order)

Second-order SQL injection arises when user-supplied data is stored by the application and later incorporated into SQL queries in an unsafe way.

What is match in SQL?

A MATCHES query finds all rows in a query table that match a given document. ... Typically, your document would be passed in a bind variable. The document text used in a matches query can be VARCHAR2 or CLOB .

What is blind SQL injection?

Blind SQL (Structured Query Language) injection is a type of SQL Injection attack that asks the database true or false questions and determines the answer based on the applications response. ... This makes exploiting the SQL Injection vulnerability more difficult, but not impossible. .

How does Nodejs prevent SQL injection?

1. require('mysql') - Load the mysql module to connect to database.
2. To avoid SQL Injection attack, You need escape user input data before using it inside a SQL query. You can use mysql. escape() , connection. escape() or pool. escape() methods.

What is the difference between a prepared statement and a stored procedure?

The difference is you cant store prepared statements. You must "prepare" them every time you need to execute one. Stored procedures, on the other hand, can be stored, associated to a schema, but you need to know PL/SQL to write them. You must check if your DBMS supports them.

Which one is better view or stored procedure?

A view is essentially a saved SQL statement. Therefore, I would say that in general, a stored procedure will be likely to be faster than a view IF the SQL statement for each is the same, and IF the SQL statement can benefit from optimizations. Otherwise, in general, they would be similar in performance.

Why we use view instead of stored procedure?

View is simple showcasing data stored in the database tables whereas a stored procedure is a group of statements that can be executed. A view is faster as it displays data from the tables referenced whereas a store procedure executes sql statements.

When should a stored procedure be written?

A Stored Procedure is a type of code in SQL that can be stored for later use and can be used many times. So, whenever you need to execute the query, instead of calling it you can just call the stored procedure.
