Why coronoid fossa of humerus?
Daniel Lopez The coronoid fossa is located superior to the In the human arm, the humeral trochlea is the medial portion of the articular surface of the elbow joint which articulates with the trochlear notch on the ulna in the forearm.Trochlea of humerus - Wikipedia
What is the purpose of the coronoid fossa?
Above the front part of the trochlea is a small depression, the coronoid fossa, which receives the coronoid process of the ulna during flexion of the forearm.
What is the purpose of the coronoid process?
Function. The coronoid process stabilises the elbow joint and prevents hyperflexion.
What does the coronoid fossa of humerus articulate with?
part of ulna
…of the trochlear notch, the coronoid process, enters the coronoid fossa of the humerus when the elbow is flexed. On the outer side is the radial notch, which articulates with the head of the radius. The head of the bone is elsewhere roughened for muscle attachment.
What is radial fossa of humerus?
The radial fossa is a slight depression found on the humerus above the front part of the capitulum. It receives the anterior border of the head of the radius when the forearm is flexed.

While no muscles attach to the coronoid fossa, the brachialis muscle of the upper arm inserts at the coronoid process just beyond the fossa.
What attaches at coronoid process?
At the junction of this surface with the front of the body is a rough eminence, the tuberosity of the ulna, which gives insertion to a part of the Brachialis; to the lateral border of this tuberosity the oblique cord is attached.
What is a coronoid process?
Medical Definition of coronoid process
1 : the anterior process of the superior border of the ramus of the mandible. 2 : a flared process of the lower anterior part of the upper articular surface of the ulna fitting into the coronoid fossa when the arm is flexed.
Which bones have coronoid process?
The coronoid process is found on the ulna and interfaces with the coronoid fossa of the humerus in the elbow.
Are there 2 Coronoid processes?
The coronoid process of the mandible, part of the ramus mandibulae of the mandible. The coronoid process of the ulna, a triangular eminence projecting forward from the upper and front part of the ulna.
What attaches to Coronoid elbow?
The coronoid process has three soft tissue insertions: the anterior joint capsule of the elbow, the brachialis muscle and the medial ulnar collateral ligament (MUCL).
What is the difference between Coronoid and coracoid?
The key difference between coronoid and coracoid is their distribution; coronoid process is present as a pointed projection of the ulna while the coracoid process is present as a pointed projection of the scapula.
What is Coronoid notch?
an indentation, especially one on the edge of a bone or other organ; called also incisure.
What is Coronoidectomy surgery?
Coronoidectomy is a procedure where the coronoid attachment is cut and removed. (Surgical removal of the coronoid process of the mandible.)
What is the Coronoid fossa?
Medical Definition of coronoid fossa
: a depression of the humerus into which the coronoid process fits when the arm is flexed — compare olecranon fossa.
What is radial fossa?
Anatomical Parts
Above the front part of the capitulum is a slight depression, the radial fossa, which receives the anterior border of the head of the radius, when the forearm is flexed.
What is spiral groove of humerus?
The radial sulcus ( also known as the musculospiral groove, radial groove, or spiral groove) is a broad but shallow oblique depression for the radial nerve and deep brachial artery. It is located on the center of the lateral border of the humerus bone.
What is the greater tubercle of the humerus?
The greater tuberosity is the prominent area of bone at the top of the humerus and is the attachment for the two large, powerful rotator cuff muscles - supraspinatus and infraspinatus. It is injured/fractured in a fall by either landing directly onto the side of your shoulder or landing with your arm outstretched.
Can you feel your Coronoid process?
The coracoid process is palpable just below the lateral end of the clavicle (collar bone).
What is Ramus of mandible?
The rami are two vertical processes located on either side of the body; they join the body at the angle of the mandible. At the superior aspect of each ramus, the coronoid and condylar processes articulate with the temporal bone to create the temporomandibular joint which permits mobility.
What is ulna Trochlear notch?
The upper end of the ulna presents a large C-shaped notch—the semilunar, or trochlear, notch—which articulates with the trochlea of the humerus (upper arm bone) to form the elbow joint. ... The lower end of the bone presents a small cylindrical head that articulates with the radius at the side and the wrist bones below.
Where is the radial notch?
The radial notch is a narrow, oblong, articular depression on the lateral side of the coronoid process; it receives the circumferential articular surface of the head of the radius. It is concave from before backward, and its prominent extremities serve for the attachment of the annular ligament.
Where is sphenoid bone?
An unpaired bone located in the cranium (or skull), the sphenoid bone, also known as the “wasp bone,” is located in the middle and toward the front of the skull, just in front of the occipital bone.
Where is optic foramen?
The optic foramen, the opening through which the optic nerve runs back into the brain and the large ophthalmic artery enters the orbit, is at the nasal side of the apex; the superior orbital fissure is a larger hole through which pass large veins and nerves.…
