Who invented quadratic equation?
Jessica Burns The Work of Al-Khwarizmi In 825 CE, about 2,500 years after the Babylonian tablets were created, a general method that is similar to today's Quadratic Formula was authored by the Arab mathematician Muhammad bin Musa al-Khwarizmi in a book titled Hisab al-jabr w'al-muqabala.
Who first invented the quadratic equation?
At the end of the 16th Century the mathematical notation and symbolism was introduced by amateur-mathematician François Viète, in France. In 1637, when René Descartes published La Géométrie, modern Mathematics was born, and the quadratic formula has adopted the form we know today.
Why was the quadratic equation invented?
It is often claimed that the Babylonians (about 400 BC) were the first to solve quadratic equations. This is an over simplification, for the Babylonians had no notion of 'equation'. What they did develop was an algorithmic approach to solving problems which, in our terminology, would give rise to a quadratic equation.
Where the quadratic formula comes from?
Deriving the Quadratic Formula
is actually derived using the steps involved in completing the square. It stems from the fact that any quadratic function or equation of the form y = a x 2 + b x + c y = a{x^2} + bx + c y=ax2+bx+c can be solved for its roots.

The term "discriminant" was coined in 1851 by the British mathematician James Joseph Sylvester.
How did Babylonians solve quadratic equations?
To solve quadratic equations the Babylonians used a method equivalent to using our quadratic formula. ... The Babylonians could even reduce equations of the form ax2 + bx = c to the normal form y2 + by = ac using the substitution y = ax, which is quite astounding given that they had no formal algebraic system.
Who invented zero?
The first modern equivalent of numeral zero comes from a Hindu astronomer and mathematician Brahmagupta in 628. His symbol to depict the numeral was a dot underneath a number.
Who invented algorithm?
Why are algorithms called algorithms? It's thanks to Persian mathematician Muhammad al-Khwarizmi who was born way back in around AD780.
Who introduced algebra in India?
But Indian mathematician Bhāskara had already discovered many of Leibniz's ideas over 500 years earlier. Bhāskara, also made major contributions to algebra, arithmetic, geometry and trigonometry.
What is diophantus famous for?
Diophantus, often known as the 'father of algebra', is best known for his Arithmetica, a work on the solution of algebraic equations and on the theory of numbers. However, essentially nothing is known of his life and there has been much debate regarding the date at which he lived.
Who is the first mathematician of the world?
One of the earliest known mathematicians were Thales of Miletus (c. 624–c. 546 BC); he has been hailed as the first true mathematician and the first known individual to whom a mathematical discovery has been attributed.
Who discovered the value of pi?
The Egyptians calculated the area of a circle by a formula that gave the approximate value of 3.1605 for π. The first calculation of π was done by Archimedes of Syracuse (287–212 BC), one of the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world.
Who invented geometry?
Euclid lived 2300 years ago in Alexandria, in northern Egypt. His was a brilliant mind. He devised a method of learning Geometry starting from the simplest idea – an Axiom - something we can all agree is self-evident.
Who invented clock?
Though various locksmiths and different people from different communities invented different methods for calculating time, it was Peter Henlein, a locksmith from Nuremburg, Germany, who is credited with the invention of modern-day clock and the originator of entire clock making industry that we have today.
Who invented exam?
' If we were to go by historical sources, then exams were invented by an American businessman and philanthropist known as Henry Fischel somewhere in the late 19th century.

Aryabhatta is the father of Indian mathematics. He was a great mathematician and astronomer of ancient India. His major work is known as Aryabhatiya. It consists of spherical trigonometry, quadratic equations, algebra, plane trigonometry, sums of power series, arithmetic.
When was Algebra invented in India?
The earliest known Indian mathematical documents are dated to around the middle of the first millennium BC (around the 6th century BC). The recurring themes in Indian mathematics are, among others, determinate and indeterminate linear and quadratic equations, simple mensuration, and Pythagorean triples.
Who conquered the Babylonian Empire?

Who discovered the square root symbol?
In 1450AD Regiomontanus invented a symbol for a square root, written as an elaborate R. The square root symbol √ was first used in print in 1525.
Why is B 2 4ac called the discriminant?
It is called the Discriminant, because it can "discriminate" between the possible types of answer: when b2 − 4ac is positive, we get two Real solutions. when it is zero we get just ONE real solution (both answers are the same) when it is negative we get a pair of Complex solutions.
What does BX mean in a quadratic equation?
ax2 is the quadratic term. bx is the linear term. c is the constant term. The coefficient of the quadratic term, a, determines how wide or narrow the graphs are, and whether the graph turns upward or downward.
