The development and maintenance of spermatogenesis is dependent on the pituitary gonadotropins; FSH, and LH. Both hormones are secreted and regulated as a part of the HPG axis HPG axis The hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis (HPG axis) refers to the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and gonadal glands as if these individual endocrine glands were a single entity. ... Fluctuations in this axis cause changes in the hormones produced by each gland and have various local and systemic effects on the body. › wiki

Hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis - Wikipedia

in response to the hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).

Is FSH required for spermatogenesis?

Pituitary-derived FSH provides indirect structural and metabolic support for development of spermatogonia into mature spermatids via its membrane-bound receptor in Sertoli cells. FSH also play a crucial role in determination of the number of Sertoli cells and thus their capacity to maintain spermatogenesis.

Which hormone plays important role in Spermiogenesis?

FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone plays an important role in spermiogenesis. It stimulates Sertoli cells to secrete factors involved in spermiogenesis.

What causes spermatogenesis?

Spermatogenesis begins when the hypothalamus releases a pulse of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone that induces the release of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone. LH stimulates Leydig interstitial cells to synthesize and secrete testosterone.

Is testosterone needed for spermatogenesis?

Testosterone is required for processes that are critical for spermatogenesis including maintaining the BTB, supporting the completion of meiosis, the adhesion of elongated spermatids to Sertoli cells and the release of sperm.

How do Sertoli cells support spermatogenesis?

Sertoli cells facilitate the progression of germ cells to spermatozoa via direct contact and by controlling the environment milieu within the seminiferous tubules. The regulation of spermatogenesis by FSH and testosterone occurs by the action of these hormones on the Sertoli cells.

How does LH stimulate spermatogenesis?

In men, LH stimulates testosterone production from the interstitial cells of the testes (Leydig cells). ... This androgen-binding protein causes high local concentrations of testosterone near the sperm, an essential factor in the development of normal spermatogenesis.

How do Gonadotropic hormones regulate spermatogenesis?

It targets Sertoli cells to stimulate the production of estrogens from androgens, and, together with testosterone, it induces the synthesis of androgen-binding proteins in these cells, which helps maintaining high levels of testosterone locally, necessary for spermatogenesis.

How do androgens LH and FSH control spermatogenesis?

Both FSH (directly) and LH (indirectly via testosterone-androgen receptor [AR]) exert their actions on spermatogenesis mainly through the regulation of Sertoli cell factors. In response to the gonadotropins, 2 major endocrine signals are produced from the testis.

Which hormone mediates a negative feedback loop for spermatogenesis?

Hormones control sperm production in a negative feedback system. Testosterone, the hormone responsible for the secondary sexual characteristics that develop in the male during adolescence, stimulates spermatogenesis.

What hormone do Corticotrophs secrete?

Corticotrophs release ACTH (also called corticotropin) in response to corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) produced by the neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamus and secreted via the hypophyseal portal system. The ACTH stimulates the adrenal gland to secrete glucocorticoids, MSH, mineralocorticoid, and androgens.

What is the role of hormone in spermatogenesis and fertilization?

Hormonal regulation of the male reproductive system: GnRH stimulates the production of FSH and LH, which act on the testes to begin spermatogenesis and to develop secondary sex characteristics in the male. ... The Sertoli cells produce the hormone inhibin, which is released into the blood when the sperm count is too high.

What is the role of FSH in spermatogenesis quizlet?

What is the role of FSH in spermatogenesis? ... Drugs are used to stop the menstrual cycle and FSH is injected to stimulate the development of follicles.

What is the spermatogenesis process?

Spermatogenesis is the process of sperm cell development. Rounded immature sperm cells undergo successive mitotic and meiotic divisions (spermatocytogenesis) and a metamorphic change (spermiogenesis) to produce spermatozoa.

Which pituitary hormone regulates Sertoli cells?

Option A- FSH: It stands for Follicle stimulating hormone and this is an important hormone as it plays a main role in pubertal development and the function of men's testes and women's ovaries. Sertoli cells are thus regulated by follicle stimulating hormones.

What hormone do Sertoli cells release?

Sertoli cells produce and secrete the peptide hormone inhibin B into the circulation as a response to FSH stimulation.

Which hormone controls the function of Sertoli?

FSH is the major endocrine hormone known to regulate Sertoli cell function.

What is the role of LH in spermatogenesis quizlet?

LH cells are responsible for stimulating and promoting the growth of the Ledig Cells which produce testosterone.

What is the role of testosterone in spermatogenesis quizlet?

Acts on seminiferous tubules to increase spermatogenesis by stimulating primary spermatocytes to undergo the first division of meiosis and form secondary spermatocytes. ...

Which structure is responsible for spermatogenesis quizlet?

The structure responsible for sperm production is the: seminiferous tubules.

How the FSH controls the spermatogenesis?

LH stimulates Leydig cell T production, and FSH stimulates in Sertoli cells, in synergy with T, the production of regulatory molecules and nutrients needed for the maintenance of spermatogenesis. Hence, both T and FSH regulate spermatogenesis indirectly through Sertoli cells.

What is hormonal control?

Ultimately, hormones control the function of entire organs, affecting such diverse processes as growth and development, reproduction, and sexual characteristics. Hormones also influence the way the body uses and stores energy and control the volume of fluid and the levels of salts and sugar (glucose) in the blood.

What male hormone inhibits the secretion of FSH?

The Sertoli cells produce the hormone inhibin, which is released into the blood when the sperm count is too high. This inhibits the release of GnRH and FSH, which will cause spermatogenesis to slow down.

Is TRH a peptide hormone?

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) produced in the parvocellular division of the hypothalamus is the key peptide hormone responsible for HPT regulation.

Is TRH secreted by hypothalamus?

The hypothalamus releases thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), which stimulates the pituitary gland to release thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
