1. No external power required – Rotameters are mechanical devices which do not require power to provide flow measurement. ...
2. You can see the process – Customers not only get a flow measurement reading but a look into their process.

Under what conditions is the rotameter used?

Typically they can be used for corrosive liquids that attack glass tubes, in cases where water hammer due to flows that suddenly start or stop is important, or under higher temperatures or pressures such as those associated with steam, which can destroy glass rotameters.

What is the purpose of using rotameter Mcq?

Explanation : Rotameter is used to measure flow of fluids.

What is the working principle of rotameter?

When a rotameter is used with a liquid the float rises because of a combination of the velocity head of the fluid and the buoyancy of the liquid. With a gas the buoyancy is negligible and the float moves in the most part due to the velocity head of the gas.

Can a rotameter be used in a horizontal pipe line?

A rotameter can be used in horizontal pipelines.

Rotameter (Working And Animation)

Why is rotameter always installed vertically?

The tapered glass tubes are positioned vertically in the fluid flow since the float position is based on gravity. As liquid enters the bottom of the tube, the float begins to rise. ... The accuracy of a rotameter is determined by the accuracy of the pressure, temperature, and flow control during the initial calibration.

How is rotameter installed?

To cost-effectively handle larger flow rates of liquids or gases, a rotameter can be installed in a bypass line around an orifice plate. The differential pressure produced by the orifice causes a relatively low flow through the rotameter that can be a measure of flow through the main pipeline.

How many types of flowmeters are there?

We're going to look at five main types of flowmeters you can find on the market today, including differential pressure flowmeters, velocity flowmeters, positive displacement flowmeters, mass flowmeters and open-channel flowmeters.

Are Rotameters accurate?

Even in the most demanding applications — measuring gases, liquids or steam — rotameters can deliver 2% full-scale accuracy. Rotameters are inexpensive flow-metering devices for a variety of industrial processing applications.

How does an annubar work?

The Annubar generates a DP by creating blockage in the pipe and acting as an obstruction to the fluid. The velocity of the fluid is decreased and stalled as it reaches the front surface the Annubar sensor, creating the impact/high pressure. The Annubar senses the impact pressure by utilizing a DP transmitter.

What is Venturimeter used for?

A venturi meter is also called a venturi flowmeter. It is used to calculate the velocity of fluids in running through a pipeline. The fluid may be a liquid or a gas. The meter consists of a pipe with a narrowing throat that expands back to it's original diameter on the other side of the choke point.

Why are rotameter we can measure?

Explanation: A rotameter is a device that measures the flow rate of fluid in a closed tube. It is a variable area type of flow meter. In this, a float rises inside a conically shaped glass tube, as the flow increases, its position on a scale can be read off as the flow rate.

When visual indication of pressure level is required then the instrument generally used is?

Monometer - Visual indication of pressure level.

What rotameter means?

: a gauge that consists of a graduated glass tube containing a free float for measuring the flow of a fluid.

Why we use ultrasonic flow meter?

These meters are used to measure the velocity of a liquid through ultrasound to analyze volume flow. This is one kind of device for volumetric flow measurement for liquids as well as gases. These are excellent alternatives for both vortex & electromagnetic flowmeters.

What is purge rotameter?

Purge Rotameter is an instrument used to measure instant flow rate of Liquids and Gases and are commonly used for purging or low flow measurement.

Why is a rotameter tapered?

Re: What is the reason for tapering the tube of rotameter? If it were the same diameter, the ball would either stay at the bottom or rise all the way to the top. The taper allows the annular area between the ball and the tube to be proportionate to the flow, in a balanced condition.

Which is the cheapest device for measuring flow discharge rate?

Explanation: Orificemeter is the cheapest available device for measuring flow/discharge rate. 2. The principle of Orificemeter is same as that of Venturimeter.

Where are flowmeters used?

Mass flow meters are used in pharmaceuticals, mining, power industries and in waste water.

What type of flowmeters is ultrasonic?

There are two types of ultrasonic flow meter technologies: Doppler shift and transit-time. Transit-time measures the time differential between signals sent upstream and downstream. The differential is directly proportional to the velocity of the water.

What type of flow meter should I use?

Variable area flowmeters can be used in laboratory and industrial applications, and when compared with other types of flow instrumentation, are the most economical for indicating flow rate measurement when taking into account practicality and accuracy.

What are the types of rotameter?

• 10A4500 Glass Tube Flow Meters. Used for measuring a wide variety of liquids and gases in most industrial and municipal facilities. ...
• 10A3200 Armored purgemeter. ...
• FAM54 Flanged Armored Rotameter.

How many types of rotameter are there?

Area meters are of two general types : Rotameters and. Piston type meter.

What is the position of installation of rotameter?

The Rotameter is to be mounted vertically with inlet at bottom & outlet at the top. The Rotameter should be used only for the fluid or gas for which it is designed. The vertical line should always be checked with a plumb bob & a maximum of 1 deg is allowed from the vertical position.
