When a striated muscle cell metabolizes glucose in the complete absence of O2, which of the following substances is NOT produced in a significant amount? -In the absence of oxygen, pyruvate is converted to lactate in the cytoplasm and is not transported to the mitochondria to be converted to acetyl-CoA.

When a muscle cell is metabolizing glucose in the complete absence?

One phosphate is removed. When a muscle cell metabolizes glucose in the complete absence of molecular oxygen, all of the following substances are produced EXCEPT: Acetyl-CoA. C4 plants have better water conservation abilities than do many other plants (especially C3).

When glucose is metabolized in the absence of oxygen pyruvate is converted to quizlet?

In the presence of oxygen, pyruvate is converted to acetyl-CoA while in the absence of oxygen, pyruvate is converted to lactate. 18. Glycolysis is the conversion of glucose to pyruvate.

When a striated muscle cell metabolizes glucose in the complete absence of O2?

When a striated muscle cell metabolizes glucose in the complete absence of O2, which of the following substances is NOT produced in a significant amount? -In the absence of oxygen, pyruvate is converted to lactate in the cytoplasm and is not transported to the mitochondria to be converted to acetyl-CoA.

When glucose is metabolized in the absence of oxygen pyruvate is converted to?

Glycolysis is a linear metabolic pathway of enzyme-catalyzed reactions that convert glucose into two molecules of pyruvate in the presence of oxygen or into two molecules of lactate in the absence of oxygen.

Exercise and Insulin Stimulated Glucose Uptake by Skeletal Muscle

When glucose is oxidized The product is?

Glucose is oxidized into 2 molecules of pyruvic acid in an exergonic reaction. Most of the energy is conserved in the high-energy electrons of NADH and in the phosphate bonds of ATP. The Krebs cycle completes the oxidation of organic molecules.

What is muscle metabolism?

The consumption of energy by all cells, including those of muscle tissue, to perform work. The source of chemical energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), is metabolized to adenosine diphosphate (ADP). If the energy requirement is short-term, the ADP is converted back to ATP.

What is complete oxidation of glucose?

Complete oxidation of one molecule of glucose results in the production of the equivalent of 38 molecules of ATP. This results in the production of 38 molecules of water, because formation of the phosphodiester bond between ADP and inorganic phosphate involves the splitting off of a molecule of water.

What are the four stages of glucose oxidation?

What are the four stages of glucose oxidation? There are four stages: glycolysis, the link reaction, the Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. During glycolysis, glucose molecules (six-carbon molecules) are split into two pyruvates (three-carbon molecules) during a sequence of enzyme-controlled reactions.

Where does glucose oxidation occur?

Glycolysis, the initial stage of glucose metabolism, takes place in the cytosol and does not involve molecular O₂. It produces a small amount of ATP and the three-carbon compound pyruvate. In aerobic cells, pyruvate formed in glycolysis is transported into the mitochondria, where it is oxidized by O₂ to CO₂.

Which of the following is the oxidative pathway for glucose?

Pentose phosphate phthway (PPP)is called alternative oxidation pathway of glucose. This pathway occurs in hepatocytes, erythrocytes (in plants also) etc. 36 molecules of ATP are formed per mole of glucose in this pathway.

How do muscle cells metabolize?

Muscle Metabolism During Contraction. The driving factor in muscle metabolism is the need to produce energy to support muscular contractions. ATP provides the energy by cleaving its third phosphate group with the concomitant release of energy to form ADP (adenosine diphosphate).

What is the process of muscle metabolism?

In order for muscles to contract, ATP must be available in the muscle fiber. Through the metabolic process of glycogenolysis, glycogen is broken down to release glucose. ... ATP is then generated from glucose by cellular respiration. Glucose and fatty acids obtained from the bloodstream.

Which metabolic process occur in muscles?

Cellular respiration plays a key role in returning the muscles to normal after exercise, converting the excess pyruvate into ATP and regenerating the stores of ATP, phosphocreatine, and glycogen in the muscle that are required for more rapid contractions.

When glucose is completely oxidized during cellular respiration molecules of what are produced?

Glucose is completely oxidized after chemiosmosis because that's when the final products of Glycolysis and The Citric Acid Cycle are used creating the final 36 to 38 ATP molecules. The final products that are used are NADH and FADH2 which are needed in the electron transport chain and ultimately Chemiosmosis.

What happens to glucose during glycolysis?

During glycolysis, glucose ultimately breaks down into pyruvate and energy; a total of 2 ATP is derived in the process (Glucose + 2 NAD+ + 2 ADP + 2 Pi --> 2 Pyruvate + 2 NADH + 2 H+ + 2 ATP + 2 H2O). ... The specific form of glucose used in glycolysis is glucose 6-phosphate.

Why is energy released when glucose is oxidized during aerobic respiration?

So, in a reaction like the breakdown of glucose above, energy is released because the electrons are moving to a lower-energy, more "comfortable" state as they travel from glucose to oxygen.

How do muscle cells convert glucose or fat into ATP?

Muscle cells can contribute to blood glucose but indirectly. The glycogen in muscle cells can be converted back into glucose and used by those cells to make ATP. ... Muscle cells can release pyruvate and lactate (from glycolysis) into the blood. This pyruvate and lactate is taken up and converted to glucose by liver cells.

What happens to muscle cells during exercise?

This type of exercise forces your muscles to contract as hard as they can, which leads to an increase in the number of contractile filaments within your muscle cells. This makes your muscle cells enlarge and, as a result, it makes your muscles bigger.

Which process releases the most energy from one molecule of glucose?

Which process releases the most energy from one molecule of glucose? Solution: The first stages of respiration occur in the cytoplasm but most of the energy released is in the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell). During aerobic respiration 38, ATP molecules of chemical energy are produced.

What is metabolism and how does it work?

Metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. During this complex process, calories in food and beverages are combined with oxygen to release the energy your body needs to function.

What happens in the muscle fiber during the Cori cycle?

What happens in the muscle fiber during the Cori cycle? Glycogen is catabolized to produce glucose for energy. Lactic acid is shuttled to the liver and glucose is shuttled back to the muscle fiber from the liver. ... Lactic acid is shuttled to the liver and glucose is shuttled back to the muscle fiber from the liver.

What is muscle metabolism and fatigue?

Metabolic fatigue is a characteristic muscle response to intense exercise that has outstripped the rate of ATP replacement.

Which of following is not the oxidative pathway for glucose?

ANSWER : Option 1 : Glycogenesis is not the oxidative pathway for glycose...

Which pathway is not oxidative pathway for glucose?

The non-oxidative phase:

Ribulose-5-phosphate is the precursor to the sugar that makes up DNA and RNA, and is also a product of the oxidative stage.
