Suprailiac skinfold (above the upper bone of the hip)

What is a Suprailiac?

The intersection of a line joining the spinale (front part of iliac crest) and the anterior (front) part of the axilla (armpit), and a horizontal line at the level of the iliac crest.

What are the 3 skinfold sites?

• Chest.
• Abdomen.
• Thigh.

Where is the abdominal skinfold?

Abdominal: A horizontal fold about 3 cm to the side of the midpoint of the umbilicus and 1 cm below it. Quadriceps or mid-thigh: A vertical fold midway between the knee and top of the thigh (between the inguinal crease and the proximal border of the patella).

What is the body pod?

A Bod Pod is a computerized, egg-shaped device that measures your weight and volume to determine your body density and calculate your percentage of body fat.

Suprailiac Skinfold

What is thigh fold?

The mid-point of the anterior (front) surface of the thigh, midway between patella (knee cap) and inguinal fold (crease at top of thigh).

What are the 7 skinfold sites?

• Weight. lbs.
• Tricep Skinfold. mm.
• Chest Skinfold. mm.
• Subscapular Skinfold. mm.
• Midaxillary Skinfold. mm.
• Abdominal Skinfold. mm.
• Suprailiac Skinfold. mm.
• Thigh Skinfold. mm.

How accurate are BF scales?

Body fat scales provide a rough estimate of a person's BFP. However, they are not very accurate. ... In this study, the home-use body fat scales either overestimated or underestimated BFPs. The most accurate readings were off by about 21%, while the least accurate were off by about 34%.

How do you measure iliac crest?

To measure waist circumference, find the top of the right iliac crest. Place a measuring tape in a horizontal plane around the abdomen at the level of the superior edge of iliac crest. Before reading the tape measure, ensure that the tape is snug, but does not compress the skin, and is parallel to the floor.

What does skinfold measure?

Skinfold measurement is a technique to estimate how much fat is on the body. It involves using a device called a caliper to lightly pinch the skin and underlying fat in several places. This quick and simple method of estimating body fat requires a high level of skill to get accurate results.

What is the calliper method?

Skinfold testing, also known as calliper testing is a commonly used method to determine a clients body fat percentage. This technique of measurement is based on the densitometry technique (underwater weighing) and the prediction equations are 'population specific'.

Are calipers accurate for body fat?

Availability: Calipers are affordable and easy to purchase online. Accuracy: The skill of the person performing the skinfolds can vary, impacting the accuracy. Measurement errors can range from 3.5–5% body fat (3).

What is the Siri equation?

The Siri equation assumes that the density of fat is 0.900 g cm⁻³ and that the density of the fat-free mass is 1.100 g cm⁻³: % fat = [(4.95/D) − 4.50] × 100. 3. Total body fat is derived as follows: total body fat (kg) = [body weight (kg) × % body fat]/100.

What are the 9 skinfold sites?

• Chest.
• Bíceps.
• Tríceps.
• Subscapular.
• Abdominal.
• Suprailiac.
• Thigh.
• Lower back.

Where can I get skinfold measurements?

The skinfold is measured immediately above the iliac crest skinfold site. To do so, the tester should place the thumb over the iliac crest point and then measure the fold (it is taken near horizontally, but it follows the natural fold lines of the skin).

What is the Hydrodensitometry test?

Hydrostatic weighing, also known as underwater weighing or hydrodensitometry, is one of the most accurate ways to measure body fat. ... During the test, you have your body weight measured on land and underwater.

What are skinfold calipers used for?

The use of skinfold calipers to define the triceps skinfold (TSF) is the most practical technique to estimate body fat. Standards for skinfold measurement are available from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys I and II and were derived from a probability sample of the U.S. population.

How do u figure out ur body fat percentage?

To calculate body fat percentage, add your waist and hip measurements, and then subtract the neck measurement to determine your circumference value. For example, if your waist is 30, your hips are 36, and your neck is 13, your circumference value would be 53.
