What is deglutition Class 11?

Deglutition also called swallowing is the process in the body which allows a substance to pass through the mouth, to the pharynx, and into the esophagus, while shutting the epiglottis. ... The pharyngeal phase occurs involuntarily when food enters the pharynx. The oesophageal phase occurs involuntarily in the oesophagus.

What is mastication and deglutition?

MASTICATION AND DEGLUTITION The mastication process includes the biting and tearing of food into manageable pieces. ... Deglutition is the swallowing of food and involves a complex and coordinated process. It is divided into three phases; the first phase of swallowing is voluntarily; phases two and three are involuntary.

What is milk proteolysis?

Proteolysis of milk proteins is the major activity attributed to plasmin in the milk. ... Breakdown fragments of casein can produce off-flavor and bitterness in milk. In contrast, milk whey proteins such as a-lactalbumin and ß-lactoglobulin are fairly resistant to the action of plasmin.

What is protease cleavage?

Proteolytic cleavage or proteolysis is the enzymatic hydrolysis of a peptide bond in a peptide or protein substrate by a family of specialized enzymes termed proteases.

What is ingestion Class 7 short?

The process of consumption of food into body is called ingestion.

What is ingestion example?

The definition of ingest is to consume or absorb food or information. When you eat a cookie, this is an example of when you ingest the cookie. When you read a book and learn the information, this is an example of when you ingest the information. verb.

What is ingestion in simple words?

What is meant by micturition and describe it?

: the act or process of micturating : urination As the bladder fills, spinal sensory afferents relay this information to a region in the pons that coordinates micturition.

What is the difference between micturition and urination?

micturition: Also known as urination, this is the ejection of urine from the urinary bladder through the urethra to the outside of the body. urine: A liquid excrement consisting of water, salts, and urea that is made in the kidneys then released through the urethra.

What causes proteolysis?

Proteolysis occurs when the peptide bonds holding a protein together are hydrolyzed. This often occurs through catalysis by proteases, enzymes that are involved in the breakdown of proteins.

What microorganism is milk?

The major pathogenic microorganisms found in milk include E. coli, Salmonella species, S. aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes. Of these, bacteriocins have been observed to be effective against S.

What is milk Ropiness?

Ropiness or sliminess in milk, cream, or whey has been classified into two types, non- bacterial and bacterial. ... Bacterial ropiness, however, is entirely due to growth of bacteria generally encased by slimy capsular material that allows adhesion of the cells to form "ropes".

What are proteolytic bacteria?

Proteolytic bacteria are a type of bacteria that can produce protease enzymes, which are enzymes that can break down peptide bonds in protein molecules. ... Many proteolytic bacteria were found in soil, water, mud and certain strains of environmental.

What is proteolytic modification?

Introduction. Proteolytic processing is a major form of post translational modification which occurs when a protease cleaves one or more bonds in a target protein to modify its activity. This processing may lead to activation, inhibition or destruction of the protein's activity.

What does proteolytic venom do?

Proteases : Catalyse reactions that disrupt protein peptide bonds in tissues, causing blood-vessel wall damage and haemorrhaging and muscle-fibre deterioration. Vipers, pit vipers contain this venom.

What is mastication and bolus?

Abstract. The main function of mastication is to transform a solid food into a bolus that can be swallowed safely. The bolus characteristics such as particles size or cohesiveness, are continuously sensed during mastication and they are important in initiating deglutition.

What are the 4 stages of swallowing?

• The Pre-oral Phase. – Starts with the anticipation of food being introduced into the mouth – Salivation is triggered by the sight and smell of food (as well as hunger)
• The Oral Phase. ...
• The Pharyngeal Phase. ...
• The Oesophageal Phase.
