Whenever electrical load connected to the alternator is varied, speed of the rotor falls out of synchronism with that of stator magnetic field speed. Thus, instability arises in machine and the resultant effect is called hunting.

What is the cause of hunting effect?

Causes of Hunting in Synchronous Motor

Sudden change in load. Sudden change in field current. A load containing harmonic torque. Fault in supply system.

What is hunting in alternator how it is be overcome?

On the sudden application of load, the rotor search for its new equilibrium position, and this process is known as Hunting. The Hunting process occurs in a synchronous motor as well as in synchronous generators if an abrupt change in load occurs.

What is hunting and how it is prevented?

Hunting or Phase swinging in a synchronous motor is prevented by making a change in the construction of the rotor. Special bars of conductors are embedded in the field poles of the motor.

How can we reduce hunting?

1. Reduce the Scent Factor. It's imperative to do everything we can to reduce scent. ...
2. Use Good Entry and Exit Routes. ...
3. Hunt the Right Times. ...
4. Bounce Around. ...
5. Hunt Property Perimeters. ...
6. Establish a Sanctuary. ...
7. Allow Stands to Recover. ...
8. Don't Hunt at All.

What is Hunting and how to overcome it

What is Alternator hunting?

Hunting occurs when the rotor position is ahead or behind the normal position. In mainly occurs in alternators driven by reciprocating engines, where the torque of rotation varies periodically; due to action of one power stroke per cycle.

What is hunting in damper winding?

Sudden changes of load on synchronous motors may sometimes set up oscillations that are superimposed upon the normal rotation, resulting in periodic variations of a very low frequency in speed. This effect is known as hunting or phase-swinging.

What is Generator hunting?

The sudden change in load and driving torque causes what is called the hunting phenomenon of the synchronous generator. The hunting phenomena usually are damped by the damping torque produced by the damper winding and eddy currents induced on the pole face. ... In the worst case, the generator may lose synchronism.

Why damper winding is used in alternator?

Main Purpose of damper winding in the generator

Prevents hunting (momentarily speed fluctuations) in the alternator, Increases the transient stability. Provides high starting torque to the synchronous motor.

What are the causes of hunting Mcq?

• Periodic variation of load.
• Sudden changes in load.
• Faults occurring in the system when supplied by the generator.
• Sudden change in the field current.
• Cyclic variations of the load torque.

What is electrical hunting?

hunting means momentary fluctuations in rotor speed. In synchronous machine magnetic locking is take place between rotor and stator its known as cogging. A suddenly change in load causes sudden change in torque or load angle(A). Rotor is oscillation by angle(A) at steady States position because of moment of inertia.

What does hunting of synchronous motor means?

What does hunting of synchronous motor mean? When the load applied to the synchronous motor is suddenly increased or decreased, the rotor oscillates about its synchronous position with respect to the stator field. This action is called hunting.

What is the slip?

Slip is the differentiation between synchronous and asynchronous speed. ... The difference between the synchronous speed of the electric motor magnetic field, and the shaft rotating speed is slip - measured in RPM or frequency. Slip increases with increasing load - providing a greater torque.

What causes engine to hunt?

Engine hunting and surging at idle is usually caused by a fuel delivery, air leak, or governor system problem. Cleaning/overhauling the carburettor, adjustment of the governor, and/or changing the air filer may be required.

What can cause hunting and surging?

(T/F) A lean air/fuel mixture can cause an engine to hunt & surge at top no-load speed.

What is the cause of governor hunting?

A governor is said to be hunt if the speed of the engine fluctuates continuously above and below the mean speed. This is caused by a too sensitive governor which changes the fuel supply by a large amount when a small change in the speed of rotation takes place.

Which of the following is not a cause of hunting in a synchronous motor?

Faults occurring in the system when supplied by the generator. Sudden change in the field current. Cyclic variations of the load torque.

What do you understand by hunting?

Hunting is the chasing and killing of wild animals by people or other animals, for food or as a sport. ... Hunting is the activity of searching for a particular thing.

How long does it take for hunting pressure to go away?

It will disappear slowly with time but... it takes 2-3 days of active in-game time to pass before they start to fade. By then, most players have already created pressure in other areas and the pressure has already faded from the original areas.

Does hunting pressure go away?

Hunting pressure will disappear as it builds up elsewhere in the reserve. It is illustrated by a colored (grayish violet to glaring pink) field on the map. Different intensities of pressure can be distinguished based on the shade of purple of a particular area.

Is hunting pressure a real thing?

But hunting pressure isn't just a concept. Deer react to increased human intrusions during hunting season. From a human perspective, hunting pressure varies greatly. A bowhunter with a large private lease to himself during the week might think that handful of hunters who show up for the weekend send deer into a tizzy.

What are used in preventing the hunting phenomenon in synchronous generator?

Which of the following are used in preventing the hunting phenomenon in synchronous generators? Explanation: Damper bars try to maintain synchronism between the rotating magnetic field and the rotor so they help in preventing hunting. It produces surges in the machine.

Why is the field of an alternator wound on rotor?

Typically, a rotating magnet, called the rotor turns within a stationary set of conductors wound in coils on an iron core, called the stator. The field cuts across the conductors, generating an induced EMF (electromotive force), as the mechanical input causes the rotor to turn.

What is slip in induction motor?

“Slip” in an AC induction motor is defined as:

As the speed of the rotor drops below the stator speed, or synchronous speed, the rotation rate of the magnetic field in the rotor increases, inducing more current in the rotor's windings and creating more torque. Slip is required to produce torque.
