Wireless transmission intercepts, in which unencrypted wireless network traffic is intercepted and confidential information compromised. "WiPhishing" involves covertly setting up a wireless-enabled laptop or access point in order to get devices to connect with it as a prelude to hacking attacks.

What is the interception of data?

Where data is intercepted during transmission. This is done using software called a packet sniffer, which examines data packets as they are sent around a network, or across the internet. The information gathered is sent back to a hacker.

Why is it so easy to intercept wireless communications?

However, wireless networks are insecure by nature. ... Hence, they are more susceptible to security attacks (e.g. eavesdropping, unauthorized access) than wired networks [1]. Data interception and tampering is easy for anyone with the proper hardware and/or software tools and knowledge.

What is a data interception attack?

Interception attacks allow unauthorized users to access our data, applications, or environments, and are primarily an attack against confidentiality. ... Properly executed, interception attacks can be very difficult to detect.

What different ways are there to intercept data?

One way data can be intercepted is if someone uses some hijacking software and pretends to be the destination for communications across a network. Another way is for a user to use 'packet sniffing' software and hardware to monitor network traffic and intercept those packets it is interested in.

What is network interception?

Network interception is commonly performed by “security box” that attempts to detect attacks or monitor for corporate data exfiltration for all computers on a network. These boxes are often also used to intercept and analyze emails (read this post for more detail).

What can a hacker gain by intercepting data?

With stolen data criminals can target company personnel to give sensitive information or to trick them to make payments. Such phishing attacks targeted against a specific individual are called spear-phishing. Criminals can also try to gain access to company networks to spy on them and infect them with malware.

Is data interception method used by hackers?

Explanation: Sniffing which is also known as wiretapping is data interception method used by hackers. It is a technique used for monitoring & capturing all data packets passing through any target network.

What is interception and eavesdropping?

As nouns the difference between interception and eavesdropping. is that interception is an act of intercepting something, the state of being intercepted, or a thing that is intercepted while eavesdropping is listening secretly to private conversation of others.

What are Wi-Fi attacks?

Commonly known as wireless network attacks, penetration and intrusion acts that target wireless networks pose serious threats. Wireless network attacks aim to capture the information sent across the network and/or intrude with the traffic of information.

How is encryption done?

Encryption uses an algorithm to scramble, or encrypt, data and then uses a key for the receiving party to unscramble, or decrypt, the information. The message contained in an encrypted message is referred to as plaintext. In its encrypted, unreadable form it is referred to as ciphertext.

What is electromagnetic interception?

The interception of electromagnetic information refers to receiving the electromagnetic signal radiated through air or transmission pipeline from the target information equipment by the specific device within a certain distance [14], which is shown in Fig. 3.1.

What is password interception?

Abstract. Simple password authentication is often used e.g. from an email software application to a remote IMAP server. ... We demonstrate that a password for an IMAP account can be intercepted when the attacker is not too far from the server in less than an hour in a typical setting.
