Circinate ptyxis can be define as the leaf folded during the developmental stages this is the characteristic feature of fern. Furcate venation can be defined as the veins that will divide and form a fork the branches do not unite.

Where do you find Circinate ptyxis?

The hyponasty is an upward folding or untwisting of leaves that result from greater lower-side growth. Because of hyponasty, Circinate ptyxis is present only in fern leaves. So, Hyponasty is the correct answer.

What is Circinate vernation and examples?

Circinate vernation is the manner in which a fern frond emerges. ... Circinate vernation may also be observed in the extension of leaflets, in the compound leaves of cycads. Circinate vernation is also typical of the carnivorous plant family Droseraceae, for example see this photo of Drosera filiformis.

What is Circinate vernation and where it is found?

When the leaf is rolled from the apex towards the base like the tail of a dog, is called circinate vernation. It is found in fern leaves. Circinate is a type of ptyxis.

What is the purpose of Circinate vernation?

Circinate vernation is a term used to describe the development of the fern fiddlehead into a frond. Because plants grow apically, it is important to protect the apical meristems in growing organs (as we have seen in both axillary and terminal buds with the evolution of bud scales).

In ferns, circinate ptyxis (vernation) is defined as

What is Circinate Vernation Class 11?

Complete answer: Circinate vernation is the type of vernation in which the new leaves emerges in ferns by unrolling from the tight coil. The coiled frond which emerges at first is known as crozier which helps in the protection of tender tips of leaves.

What is Circinate Venetion?

Circinate venation refers to the emergence of new leaves in ferns by unrolling from a tight coil. The coiled frond that emerges initially is termed a fiddlehead or crozier.

Which fern is Woody?

Unlike flowering plants, tree ferns do not form new woody tissue in their trunk as they grow. Rather, the trunk is supported by a fibrous mass of roots that expands as the tree fern grows.

Is Circinate Vernation found in Cycas?

This type of vernation is also seen in Cycas, the only genus that is recognized in the family Cycadaceae where the leaves grow directly from the trunk. Circinate vernation is found in these new leaflets.

What do you mean by Ramenta?

ramenta. (Science: botany) thin brownish chaffy scales upon the leaves or young shoots of some plants, especially upon the petioles and leaves of ferns. Origin: L, scrapings.

What is a petiole on a leaf?

A plant leaf is generally composed of a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole connects the leaf blade to the plant stem and, from a structural viewpoint, it resembles a cantilever beam.

How are ferns different from other plants?

Ferns are plants that do not have flowers. ... Similar to flowering plants, ferns have roots, stems and leaves. However, unlike flowering plants, ferns do not have flowers or seeds; instead, they usually reproduce sexually by tiny spores or sometimes can reproduce vegetatively, as exemplified by the walking fern.

What is a fern frond?

The leaves of ferns are often called fronds. Fronds are usually composed of a leafy blade and petiole (leaf stalk). ... Parts of a fern leaf. The midrib is the main axis of the blade, and the tip of the frond is its apex. The blade may be variously divided, into segments called pinnae; single leaflets are pinna.

Which of the following pair shows Circinate ptyxis?

Ferns are pteridophytes that bear sporangia in sori on the leaves which show circinate ptyxis in the young condition.

What is Epinasty biology class 12?

: a nastic movement in which a plant part (such as a flower petal) is bent outward and often downward.

What is Furcate Venation?

Furcate venation can be defined as the veins that will divide and form a fork the branches do not unite.

What is a plumosa fern?

Asparagus plumosa ferns are ornamental perennial plants with long, soft leaves that grow like feathery clumps. Asparagus ferns get their name from their fern-like foliage. ... Asparagus plumosa ferns are also called lace fern, climbing asparagus, asparagus grass, or ferny asparagus.

Is fern a bryophyte?

No, ferns are not bryophytes. They are pteridophytes. They are non-flowering, vascular plants. Unlike bryophytes, they possess true roots, stem and leaves.

What are ferns and mosses?

Mosses are small spore-producing non-vascular primitive plants, while ferns are vascular plants. Furthermore, mosses do not posses true stems, leaves and roots, while ferns have a differentiated plant body into true stem, leaves and roots. Besides these, ferns show circinate vernation, unlike mosses.

What are types of leaves?

There are two different types of leaves – simples leaves and compound leaves. The other types of leaves include acicular, linear, lanceolate, orbicular, elliptical, oblique, centric cordate, etc. They perform the function of photosynthesis and help in the removal of excess water from the aerial parts of the plant.
