A cystotome or needle-knife catheter may be used to puncture across the gastric or duodenal wall and establish access into the pseudocyst.

What is a Cystotome?

Medical Definition of cystotome

1 : an instrument used for cystotomy. 2 : an instrument used in opening the capsule of the lens in cataract operations.

What is a cystotome used for in cataract surgery?

A cystotome-assisted prechop technique for moderate-density nuclei can simplify cataract surgery with a shorter learning curve and effective postoperative outcomes, according to one surgeon. The technique uses a surgeon-bent cystotome to bisect the nucleus in the capsular bag with a Nagahara chopper.

Which instrument is used for doing capsulorrhexis?

Instrumentation. The capsulorrhexis typically begins with a cystotome, a sharp tipped instrument with a bent shaft designed to help puncture the anterior capsule and allow manipulation of the resulting flap. Pre-bent cystotome needles are available that provide a consistent instrument.

What is the function of Capsulorhexis?

Capsulorhexis or capsulorrhexis, also known as continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC), is a technique pioneered by Howard Gimbel used to remove the capsule of the lens from the eye during cataract surgery by shear and stretch forces.

What is Pseudoexfoliation syndrome?

Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PXF or PEX) is an age-related systemic syndrome that targets mainly ocular tissues through the gradual deposition of fibrillary white flaky material from the lens, mainly on the lens capsule, ciliary body, zonules, corneal endothelium, iris and pupillary margin.

Are multifocal cataract lenses worth it?

Existing systematic reviews have generally concluded that multifocal IOLs result in better uncorrected near vision and greater spectacle independence, but more unwanted visual phenomena such as glare and halos, compared to monofocal IOLs.

What is femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery?

Femtosecond laser technology enables precise incisions in the cornea and minimizes manipulations and energy required to fragment and emulsify the lens, resulting in less damage to surrounding tissues compared with manual techniques.

What is Hydrodissection in cataract surgery?

Hydrodissection is a technique to separate the lens nucleus from the cortex and the capsule by injecting fluid, under the anterior capsule leaflet. A fluid wave can be seen as the balance salt solution (BSS) passes between the nucleus and cortex.

What is a conjunctival Peritomy?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. A peritomy is a procedure carried out during eye surgery, where an incision is made at the limbus in order to reflect the conjunctiva and Tenon's capsule of the eye, usually to expose the sclera and/or extraocular muscles for a variety of surgical procedures.

How do you use a Cystotome?

Used to electrosurgically puncture a hole in the transgastric or transduodenal wall and into a pancreatic pseudocyst, when it is visibly bulging into the gastrointestinal tract.

What is the meaning of capsulotomy?

: incision of a capsule especially of the crystalline lens (as in cataract surgery)

Can opener technique of capsulotomy?

Can opener capsulotomy. Jacques Daviel in 1752 described can opener capsulotomy as a circular ragged opening fashioned by using a cystitome. This technique is commonly employed for doing extracapsular cataract surgery.

What is Zonular dehiscence?

Definition. Rupture of the fibrous strands connecting the ciliary body and the crystalline lens of the eye. [

What is anterior Capsulorhexis?

Definition. The capsulorhexis (greek rhexis: to break) is a technique of anterior capsulotomy. The capsulorhexis delineates a circular and continuous central opening in the anterior capsule. It allows expression or phacoemulsification of the lens nucleus.

Does hydrodissection hurt?

Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to numbness, paralysis or pain. Nerve hydrodissection can be an alternative to an open surgery for some people.

What is nerve hydrodissection?

Nerve hydrodissection is a technique used when treating peripheral nerve entrapments. It involves using an anesthetic or solution such as saline to separate the nerve from the surrounding tissue, fascia, or adjacent structures.

What is meant by hydrodissection?

Hydrodissection is the process of injecting small amounts of a special fluid into the capsule of the lens in the eye in order to make dissection easier. It makes the surgeon more capable of performing maneuvers during extracapsular or phacoemulsification surgeries.

What does femtosecond laser do?

Femtosecond-assisted (Femto) laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a type of laser eye surgery. This method, along with other refractory surgeries, is used to reshape the cornea of the eye in an effort to resolve vision problems.

Is femto laser covered by insurance?

I take this opportunity to explain that although the femtosecond laser provides additional safety and produces better outcomes, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) categorize the femtosecond laser as a non-covered service because it corrects and manages astigmatism.

How much is a femtosecond?

A femtosecond is the SI unit of time equal to 10^-15 or 1⁄1 000 000 000 000 000 of a second; that is, one quadrillionth, or one millionth of one billionth, of a second.

What are the disadvantages of multifocal lenses?

• Difficulty seeing at a close distance: While this is rare, sometimes, patients may require reading glasses. This depends on their existing prescription and eye health before surgery. ...
• Night vision, halos, or glares: Only about 1% of our patients develop halos and glares on lights after dark.

Why are multifocal lenses so expensive?

More expensive than single-vision lenses and bifocal lenses. ... Progressive lenses are more expensive because you're basically getting three eyeglasses in one. In addition, you're paying for the convenience and extra time that goes into creating a multifocal eyeglass with no lines.

What are the side effects of implanting a multifocal lens?

Complications specific to Multifocal lenses may include glare, blurred vision, and rings around lights. These side effects may make it more difficult to see while driving at night, but most people who do experience this find that it is only mildly annoying and tends to subside in time.
