What feathers attach to the carpometacarpus?
The primary flight feathers are attached to the carpometacarpus and digits, the number attached to each being characteristic of the various major groups of birds. The hollow bones of birds are strengthened by internal struts.
What is the Tarsometatarsus?

The tarsometatarsal joints are composed of the articulations between the bases of the metatarsals and the distal surfaces of the three cuneiforms and the cuboid (Fig. 11.21). Marking the junction between the midfoot and the forefoot, these joints serve as the base joints for the rays of the foot.

What animals have a full coracoid bone?
A coracoid (from Greek κόραξ, koraks, raven) is a paired bone which is part of the shoulder assembly in all vertebrates except therian mammals (marsupials and placentals).
Are birds flexible?
Some flightless birds – like penguins – have only solid bones, however. ... Birds have more neck (cervical) vertebrae (back bones) than many other animals. Most birds have 13 to 25 of these very flexible bones. Thanks to this bone structure, birds are better able groom their feathers.
How many appendages do birds have?
In birds, there are two major integument appendages: scales on the foot and feathers on most of the rest of the body [2••].
What makes bird respiratory systems so efficient?
The air capillaries in the walls of the parabronchial system have a much larger overall surface area than that found in the mammalian respiratory system. The greater the surface area, the more oxygen and carbon dioxide can be passed between blood and tissues, which makes for more efficient breathing.
What are the appendages of a bird?
While their front limbs are wings and their feet, beaks, and tongues have taken on many tasks for which we use our hands, birds are still creatures with appendages that they use to interact with their environment.
