Should you use story points?

Why use Story Points? Story Points are intended to make team estimating easier. Instead of looking at a product backlog item and estimating it in hours, teams consider only how much effort a product backlog item will require, relative to other product backlog items.

Should spikes be stories or tasks?

A Spike should be assigned points because it requires a team's resources to complete. Also, anytime effort is put forth on a task, it should be made visible to the project. Team velocity can be negatively skewed if an abundant amount of Spikes are in your current iteration and have not been assigned points.

When should story points be assigned?

Should you size spike stories?

“Spikes are, like defects, generally harder to estimate correctly relative to user stories. Even if you do all of your spikes in Sprint 0, additional spikes often come along during the release.

Do spikes need acceptance criteria?

Like other stories, spikes are put in the Team Backlog, estimated, and sized to fit in an iteration. Spike results are different from a story because spikes typically produce information rather than working code. ... The Product Owner accepts spikes that have been demoed and meet its acceptance criteria.

What is the purpose of story points in agile?

Many agile teams, however, have transitioned to story points. Story points are units of measure for expressing an estimate of the overall effort required to fully implement a product backlog item or any other piece of work.
