A uniformly distributed load (UDL) is a load that is distributed or spread across the whole region of an element such as a beam or slab. In other words, the magnitude of the load remains uniform throughout the whole element.

How do you represent uniformly distributed load?

Uniformly distributed load is usually represented by W and is pronounced as intensity of udl over the beam, slab etc.

What is the resultant of the uniformly distributed load?

Resultant of Distributed Loads

The resultant of a distributed load is equal to the area of the load diagram. It is acting at the centroid of that area as indicated. The figure below shows the three common distributed loads namely; rectangular load, triangular load, and trapezoidal load.

What is equivalent uniformly distributed load?

EUDL (BM) The Equivalent Uniformly Distributed Load (EUDL) for Bending Moment (BM), for spans upto 10m, is that uniformly distributed load which produces the BM at the center of the span equal to the absolute maximum BM developed under the standard loads.

When load is uniformly spreaded over the beam then it is known as?

When the load applied on a beam varies uniformly along the length it is called a uniformly varying load.

How to Calculate Reactions of a Simply Supported Beam with a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL)

What material might cause a distributed load?

The weight of superstructures, bridge decks, wearing surfaces, and bridge parapets produce distributed loads.

What is unit of UDL?

A uniformly distributed load (UDL) is a load that is distributed or spread across the whole region of an element such as a beam or slab. ... If, for example, a 20 kN/m load is acting on a beam of length 10m, then it can be said that a 200 kN load is acting throughout the length of 10m (20kN x 10m).

What is load distribution?

1. Distributes tasks across multiple computing resources that provide the requested database service. Its main goal is to optimize the resource utilization and minimize response time without overloading any resource.

What is resultant load?

In physics and engineering, a resultant force is the single force and associated torque obtained by combining a system of forces and torques acting on a rigid body via vector addition. ... The point of application of the resultant force determines its associated torque.

How do you find the resultant of a distributed load?

For a triangular line load, it can be shown that the force resultant is one half of the peak value of the distributed load multiplied by the distance over which it acts. The location of the force resultant is two-thirds of the distance from the vertex to the peak value of the load.

What concentrated load?

[′kän·sən‚trād·əd ′lōd] (mechanics) A force that is negligible because of a small contact area; a beam supported on a girder represents a concentrated load on the girder.

What is uniformly distributed load example?

A uniform distributed load is a force that is applied evenly over the distance of a support. For the least amount of deflection possible, this load is distributed over the entire length of the support. An example would be a shipping crate on a forklift. ... This is a simple way to show visual changes in deflection.

Which of the following unit is associated with uniformly distributed load?

The load may be represented as rate per lineal metre (kN/m) for beams, or as a rate per square metre (kN/m²) for slabs. A diagram shows a beam with the load distributed all along its length. The load is labelled UDL with units shown as kN/m or kN/m².

What is non uniformly distributed load?

Basic of Civil Engineering - UNIFORMLY VARYING LOAD (NON – UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD) It is that load whose magnitude varies along the loading length with a constant rate.

What are the different types loads acting on beam differentiate between uniformly distributed load and uniformly varying load?

Type of Loads that can be applied to Beams

Concentrated or Point Load: Act at a point. Uniformly Distributed Load: Load spread along the length of the Beam. Uniformly Varying Load: Load spread along the length of the Beam, Rate of varying loading point to point.

What is point load?

A point load is an equivalent load applied to a single point, which you can determine by calculating the total load over the object's surface or length and attributing the entire load to its center. ... Multiply the load per unit area or length by the total area or length.

What do you understand by uniformly varying load?

Uniformly Varying Load: The load whose magnitude varies along the length of the structure is called a uniform varying load. The magnitude of load applied is same throughout the length of the structure for distributed loading. For the varying load, load magnitude varies linearly along the span.

What are the different types of loads?

• Different types of loads. The loads in buildings and structures can be classified as vertical loads, horizontal loads and longitudinal loads. ...
• Dead load. ...
• Live load. ...
• Wind load. ...
• Snow load. ...
• Earthquake load. ...
• Load combination. ...
• Special loads.

What is the unit of uniformly distributed load Mcq?

U.D.L stands for? Explanation: These loads are uniformly spread over a portion or whole area. They are generally represented as rate of load that is Kilo Newton per meter length (KN/m).
