Gomeisa is a Main Sequence Star type star. Gomeisa is a main star in the constellation Canis Minor and makes up the constellation outline. ... Using the most recent figures given by the 2007 Hipparcos data, the star is 161.71 light years away from Earth.

What kind of star is Gomeisa?

Gomeisa is a blue-white class B (B8) star with a temperature of 11,500 Kelvin, just a bit warmer than Orion's Rigel. Unlike Rigel, Gomeisa is a main-sequence "dwarf" that, like the Sun, is fusing hydrogen into helium in its core.

What type of star is Procyon?

Procyon is a binary star system in Canis Minor (the lesser dog), which is a constellation in the Northern Hemisphere. It is among the 10 brightest stars from Earth's sky. The system is made up of Procyon A (a main sequence star) and Procyon B (a much smaller white dwarf.)

What type of star is Canis Minor?

A red giant of spectral type M4III, BC Canis Minoris lies around 500 light-years (150 parsecs) distant from the Solar System. It is a semiregular variable star that varies between a maximum magnitude of 6.14 and minimum magnitude of 6.42. Periods of 27.7, 143.3 and 208.3 days have been recorded in its pulsations.

What elements are in Procyon star?

Procyon A can be shown to have a core temperature greater than 16x10 6 Kelvin and be more massive than the Sun by the presence of Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen as part of its composition.

What Are Main Sequence Stars?

Is Procyon a variable star?

Procyon is slightly fainter than Rigel and sometimes is it outshone by the variable supergiant Betelgeuse which is located in the same area of the sky, but much farther away from us than Procyon. Procyon has been given a special status – it is one of the 58 bright stars in the field of celestial navigation.

What stage is Deneb?

Deneb is evolving to the red supergiant stage and, at some point within the next few million years, will explode as a supernova.

How many main stars does Canis Minor have?

Notable Features: Canis Minor contains two primary stars and 14 Bayer/Flamsteed designated stars. It's brightest star, Procyon (Alpha Canis Minoris), is also the seventh brightest star in the sky.

What 2 star is Canis Minor?

Canis Minor contains two formally named stars. The star names approved by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) are Gomeisa and Procyon.

Is Canis Major a constellation?

Canis Major, (Latin: “Greater Dog”) constellation in the southern sky, at about 7 hours right ascension and 20° south in declination. The brightest star in Canis Major is Sirius, the brightest star in the sky and the fifth nearest to Earth, at a distance of 8.6 light-years.

What stage is the Procyon star in?

Currently Procyon is designated as an F5IV-V star, where the F5 essentially gives the color or temperature of the star's surface, and the IV-V means that it is in a transitional phase between the main sequence (V) and subdwarf (IV) periods. Only 11.4 light-years away, Procyon is one of our nearest stellar neighbors.

What is Betelgeuse luminosity?

Betelgeuse's luminosity is 100,000-times that of the Sun. However, its surface is also cooler – 3,600 K versus the Sun's 5,800 K – so only about 13% of its radiant energy is emitted as visible light. Traditionally, Betelgeuse is classified as a pulsating variable star.

How far is Gomeisa from Earth?

Gomeisa is also a pulsating variable star, showing marginal shifts in magnitude several times each day. This blue variable lies a little over 160 light years from the Earth, in the constellation of Canis Minor, the Lesser Dog.

What animal is Ursa Major?

Ursa Major, (Latin: “Greater Bear”) also called the Great Bear, in astronomy, a constellation of the northern sky, at about 10 hours 40 minutes right ascension and 56° north declination.

Is there a star named Carina?

Stars. Carina contains Canopus, a white-hued supergiant that is the second brightest star in the night sky at magnitude −0.72. Alpha Carinae, as Canopus is formally designated, is 313 light-years from Earth. Its traditional name comes from the mythological Canopus, who was a navigator for Menelaus, king of Sparta.

What season can you see Canis Major?

The constellation Canis Major, the great dog, is located in the southern hemisphere of the sky. It is visible in the northern hemisphere from December through March. It can be seen at latitudes between 60 degrees and -90 degrees.

What time of year can Canis Minor be seen?

The constellation Canis Minor, the little dog, is visible in the northern hemisphere from December until April. It is can be seen at latitudes between 90 degrees and -75 degrees.

What asterism do Procyon Betelgeuse and Sirius make?

The Winter Triangle asterism, also known as the Great Southern Triangle, is a prominent asterism formed by Sirius, Betelgeuse, and Procyon, the primary stars in the three winter constellations of Canis Major, Orion, and Canis Minor.

Is Deneb a double star?

Deneb, also designated as α Cygni (alpha Cygni), is a variable and double supergiant star in the constellation of Cygnus. Deneb visual magnitude is 1.25, making it the 18th brightest star in the sky.

Is Deneb a giant star?

This giant is almost twice as hot as our sun, with surface average temperatures estimated at around 8.525 K. Being an Alpha Cygni variable star, Deneb's brightness varies between magnitudes 1.21 and – 1.29. ... Thus it is the brightest first magnitude star.

Is Betelgeuse a supergiant star?

Betelgeuse is a red supergiant — a type of star that's more massive and thousands of times shorter-lived than the Sun — and it is expected to end its life in a spectacular supernova explosion sometime in the next 100,000 years.
