7. __________ is a loss of power of a satellite downlink signal due to earth's atmosphere. Explanation: The path loss is the loss in signal strength of a signal as it travels through free space. ... Explanation: The point where satellite is closest to the Earth is known as the perigee.

What is a loss of power of a satellite downlink signal due to earth atmosphere?

LNA. D. TWT. Is a loss of power of a satellite downlink signal due to earth's atmosphere.

Which antenna is used for sending back signals from satellite to Earth?

The Short Answer: Spacecraft send information and pictures back to Earth using the Deep Space Network (DSN), a collection of big radio antennas.

What type of antenna the earth station can use?

Earth Station Antenna

Parabolic reflectors are used as the main antenna in earth stations. The gain of these reflectors is high. They have the ability of focusing a parallel beam into a point at the focus, where the feed system is located.

Why downlink frequency is lower than uplink?

It say basically the power at ground stations is more as compared to power available at satellites. So generally frequency for uplink is kept higher than the downlink. There is greater attenuation due to rain when the signal frequency is high.so downlink is also kept at lower frequency.

What is Path Loss?

How does uplink and downlink interference prevent?

Larger guard period normally required if distances are increased to accommodate larger propagation delays. Note that a guard band in frequency domain is required to suppress interference to adjacent bands. Frequency separation is required to provide sufficient isolation between uplink and downlink.

Is there Internet in space?

Yes, they do. The International Space Station got internet access for the astronauts in early 2010. See this from NASA. As of mid-2011, the astronauts' internet connection was pretty slow; see this, in which astronaut Chris Hadfield said the connection was like dial-up and inadequate for gaming.

How does NASA take pictures of the Earth?

Earth. Satellites in orbit regularly photograph the Earth's surface. NASA's Landsat series of satellites have consistently orbited and captured images of the Earth since the program launched in 1972. ... Commercial and security satellites do the same.

How do astronaut communicate in space?

Because there is nothing out in space (like an atmosphere), the sound waves from one astronaut's whistling can't travel over to the other astronaut's ears. That's why the astronauts use radios to communicate—even if they're floating in space right next to each other!

How does troposphere affect the satellite signals?

How does troposphere affect the satellite signals? Explanation: The major sources of errors are when the signal pass through the atmosphere. The troposphere causes the propagation velocity of the signal to be slowed, compressing the signal wavelength. ... Satellite signals are refracted by the ionosphere.

What is meant by geostationary satellite?

Satellite that appears to be located at a fixed point in space when viewed from the earth's surface. Satellites located in geosynchronous orbit move in time with the rotation of the earth. Geostationary satellites are located 22,237 miles above the earth's surface.

Why astronauts Cannot talk to each other in space?

Now, when the two astronauts are floating close to each other in space, without the use of any special device, they cannot talk to each other because there is vacuum between them. As there is vacuum, it means there are no molecules or particulate matter between them for the sound to travel.

Can you hear sound in space?

No, you cannot hear any sounds in near-empty regions of space. Sound travels through the vibration of atoms and molecules in a medium (such as air or water). In space, where there is no air, sound has no way to travel.

Do phones work in space?

It has no phone number in the traditional sense, and astronauts have to leave their smartphones at home. For private calls, the space station has an internet-connected phone system that works through a computer, which astronauts can use to call any number on Earth. Phones on the ground cannot call them back, however.

How old is the Earth?

Earth is estimated to be 4.54 billion years old, plus or minus about 50 million years. Scientists have scoured the Earth searching for the oldest rocks to radiometrically date. In northwestern Canada, they discovered rocks about 4.03 billion years old.

Why can't you see the stars in space?

In space, or on the moon, there's no atmosphere to spread the light around, and the sky will appear black at midday – but that doesn't mean it's not just as bright. ... Even in space, stars are relatively dim, and simply don't produce enough light to show up in photos set for bright sunlight.

Can you watch Netflix in space?

Yes, they can and do watch TV shows on the ISS. From an interview with Scott Kelly aboard the ISS: Apart from posting pictures to Twitter and Instagram, Kelly also said he spends some of his limited downtime watching television.

How much do astronauts get paid?

The pay grades for civilian astronauts are GS-11 through GS-14, based on academic achievements and experience. Currently, a GS-11 astronaut starts at $64,724 per year; a GS-14 astronaut can earn up to $141,715 in annual salary [source: NASA].

What are periods like in space?

Studies have shown that women can have periods as normally in space as they do on Earth. What's more, menstrual blood flow isn't actually affected by the weightlessness we experience in space, so it doesn't float back in – the body knows it needs to get rid of it.

What is uplink downlink?

In satellite telecommunication, a downlink is the link from a satellite down to one or more ground stations or receivers, and an uplink is the link from a ground station up to a satellite. Some companies sell uplink and downlink services to television stations, corporations, and to other telecommunication carriers.

Why uplink and downlink frequencies are different in satellite communication?

Uplink frequency is kept higher than Downlink frequency for the following reasons: At higher frequency attenuation is more hence more power will be required for signal transmission to ensure that it reaches the destination with the required minimum power.

Why must a satellite have distinct uplink and downlink frequencies?

In order to avoid interference, the satellite must have distinct uplink and downlink frequencies. The satellite receives the signal on one frequency and it transmits on another frequency, the reason is to avoid the interference of signals. ... To obtain clear transmission, the frequency must be distinct between them.

Why can't we hear bomb explosions on the Moon?

Sound is created in the medium particle due to vibrations, that is, it requires some medium for propagation and the moon has no atmosphere. Therefore, one will never listen to the sound of the blast occurring on the moon. So ultimately, no medium for propagation of waves or vibrations of a medium particle will occur.
