Slow frequency hopping is a process of changing the radio frequencies of a communications on a regular basis (pattern). The duration of transmission on a single frequency is typically much longer than the amount of time it takes to send several bits of digital information.

What is slow frequency hopping and fast frequency hopping?

In slow frequency hopping, multiple symbols are transmitted in one frequency hop. In fast frequency hopping, multiple hops are required to transmit one symbol. One or more symbols are transmitted over the same carrier frequency. ... A jammer can detect this signal if carrier frequency in one hop is known.

What do you mean by frequency hopping?

Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum: A transmission technology in which the data signal is modulated by a narrowband carrier signal which changes frequency ("hops") over a wide band of frequencies. The hopping seems random but is prescribed by an algorithm known to the receiving system.

What is frequency hopping used for?

Frequency hopping is a technique mainly used to keep two or more RFID readers from interfering with each other while reading RFID tags in the same area.

What is frequency hopping modulation?

Frequency Hop Modulation is a method of transmitting radio signals by rapidly switching a carrier wave over a series of distinct frequency channels. Frequency hop modulation causes the output waveform to “hop” from frequency to frequency in a table-defined sequence.

Slow & Fast FHSS

Which circuit uses frequency hopping?

The first sub-standard IEEE 802.15. 1 is known as Bluetooth [7], which uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) [5]. In FHSS the message signal is transmitted by rapidly switching among many frequency channels, using a pseudorandom sequence known to both transmitter and receiver.

What is DHSS and FHSS?

FHSS and DSSS, which stand for Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum and Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, are two spread spectrum techniques. The main difference is in how they spread the data into the wider bandwidth. FHSS utilizes frequency hopping while DSSS utilizes pseudo noise to modify the phase of the signal.

How is frequency hopping achieved?

A short burst of data is transmitted on the current narrowband channel, and then the transmitter and receiver tune to the next frequency in the sequence for the next burst of data. In most systems, the transmitter will hop to a new frequency more than twice per second.

What do you mean by hopping?

To move with light bounding skips or leaps. b. Informal To move quickly or be busily active: The shipping department is hopping this week. 2. To jump on one foot or with both feet at the same time.

What is frequency hopping made of?

In frequency hopping, a source signal is sampled at short time intervals; each interval is modulated with a different frequency that is selected using a pseudorandom number generator (left).

What is frequency hopping in LTE?

Frequency hopping is one of the techniques that can be used to improve the uplink performance by providing frequency diversity and interference averaging. The hopping can be between subframes (inter-subframe) or within a subframe (intra- subframe).

How is frequency hopping used in WIFI?

Bluetooth uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and is allowed to hop between 79 different 1 MHz-wide channels in this band. Wi-Fi uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) instead of FHSS. ... In this manner it can attempt to avoid interference from a Wi-Fi network.

What is fast frequency hopping?

Frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) is a method of transmitting radio signals by rapidly changing the carrier frequency among many distinct frequencies occupying a large spectral band. ... FHSS signals are highly resistant to narrowband interference because the signal hops to a different frequency band.

What are the two types of hopping sequence?

• Slow Frequency Hopping (SFH) In this case one or more data bits are transmitted within one hop. An advantage is that coherent data detection is possible. ...
• Fast Frequency Hopping (FFH) One data bit is divided over multiple hops.

What is Spread Spectrum?

Spread Spectrum refers to a system originally developed for military applications, to provide secure communications by spreading the signal over a large frequency band. ... These narrowband signals are easily jammed by any other signal in the same band.

What is an example of hopping?

Hop is defined as to make a short leap or bounce. An example of to hop is to jump from one square of a hopscotch board to another.

What is hopping in physics?

In hopping, the hopping particle has to have energy greater than or equal to that of the height of the barrier in order to cross the barrier, in tunnling it can cross the barrier even with energy less than the height of the barrier.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of frequency hopping?

• It has less distance effect.
• Provide the greatest amount of spreading.
• The bandwidth of these systems is large.
• It has a short acquisition time.
• Best discrimination against multi-path.
• Very large bandwidth.

When was hopping invented?

June 1941: Hedy Lamarr and George Antheil submit patent for radio frequency hopping.

What is frequency hopping Multiple Access?

Frequency Hopping Multiple Access (FHMA) is a spread-spectrum transmission technology, which permits simultaneous voice or data communications to share the exact same communication medium. ... This hopping sequence can be modified effectively to avoid various other interference and transmissions in the same frequency band.

What is automatic frequency hopping?

In auto frequency hopping mode the receiver has no prior knowledge where to expect the next packet so it duly keeps scanning all the possible channels until it finally “finds” the signal.

How does FHSS share bandwidth?

For FHSS, a given bandwidth (range of frequencies) is divided into many different distinct channels. Bluetooth, for example, uses the 2.4 - 2.843 Ghz bandwidth, with 79 defined channels. In order to send a signal, the transmitter and receiver must first synchronize on a particular channel and seed value.

What do you mean by CDMA?

Code-division multiple access (CDMA) is a channel access method used by various radio communication technologies. CDMA is an example of multiple access, where several transmitters can send information simultaneously over a single communication channel.
