The Chargeable Weight (cw) of an airfreight is determined by the actual gross weight (gw) or the volume weight (vw), whichever is greater. Air Freight Chargeable Weight formula: Imperial: L x W x H in inches (in.) / 165 = vw (in lbs.)

How does air freight calculate chargeable weight?

1. dimensional weight in kilograms using inches – divide the cubic inch result by 366.
2. dimensional weight in kilograms using centimetres – divide the cubic centimetre result by 6000.

What is the chargeable weight for air freight?

The Chargeable Weight of Air Freight shipments are calculated as the Actual Weight (Gross Weight) or the Volumetric (also called Volume or Dimensional) Weight of the shipment, whichever is the greater.

How is air freight cost calculated?

Airlines calculate the chargeable weight of cargo by dividing the length x width x height (In cms) by 6000. When the figure you get is higher than the actual weight, the cargo is volumetric air freight and the air freight rates will be based on the higher figure.

How do you determine chargeable weight?

The chargeable weight is either the actual gross weight or the volume weight, the chargeable weight = the actual weight VS the volume weight, and the larger one is the weight for calculating the shipping cost.

Air freight // Chargeable weight concept

What is the difference between gross weight and chargeable weight?

Actual weight = gross weight. Chargeable weight is the number on your invoice; it's the amount the carrier charged to move your shipment. The chargeable weight is whichever of the following is greater: The gross weight (including the product, packaging, pallet, etc.), or.

How much does air freight cost per ton?

Average cost-per-ton for domestic air freight is $22,520 (cost-per-kg*kg-per-ton — $22.52*1000=22,520) Average cost-per-ton for international air freight is $6,730 (cost-per-kg*kg-per-ton — $6.73*1000=6,730)

How much does it cost to air freight?

The demand for air freight is limited by cost, typically priced 4–5 times that of road transport and 12–16 times that of sea transport. Air freight rates generally range from $1.50–$4.50 per kilogram, while the value of air cargo typically exceeds $4.00 per kilogram.

What do you mean by chargeable weight?

The Chargeable Weight is the Actual Gross Weight or the Volumetric Weight of the shipment – whichever is the greater. Typically, large items with a light overall weight take up more space on an aircraft than a small, heavy item.

How many CBM is 1 kg?

EQUIVALENCE: 1 CBM = 333 KG.

How is CBM calculated for air shipment?

The CBM formula is a simple calculation – it's the product of: quantity of items * length * width * height. If your shipment has different sized items, simply repeat the formula for each size and add up the volumes.

Is air freight based on weight?

Air freight calculator is based on volume measured weight also known as volumetric weight. The air freight will always be charged per kilogram against the greater weight whether it is the actual or volumetric weight.

How is actual and volume weight in air shipments calculated?

For calculating the volume weight using inches, multiply the length by the width by the height (L x W x H) in inches to obtain the cubic inches, then: To obtain the dimensional weight in pounds using inches, divide the cubic inch result by 166.

Why do we divide by 5000 to calculate volumetric weight?

Volumetric weight can be calculated by multiplying the length, width and height of a parcel (in cm) and dividing that figure by 5000 (some carriers use a divisor of 4000). ... This is because our pricing is calculated based on whichever is the greater out of the volumetric weight and the physical weight.

What is the difference between air cargo and air freight?

Exploring Basic Definitions. ... Freight has a much broader definition and can also be applied to the transportation of goods via road, ocean, rail as well as air. To clarify this further, cargo refers to the goods carried by a third-party aircraft, while an air freight company moves this cargo onto their plane.

How Are transportation charges calculated?

How do you calculate gross weight and chargeable weight?

1. Step 1: Calculate the volume of the air freight shipment. Volume = length x width x height. ...
2. Step 2: Convert the imperial measurement (cubic inches) into cubic meters. ...
3. Step 3: Finalise the volumetric weight. ...
4. Step 4: Convert weight into kilograms. ...
5. Step 5: Compare the gross weight with the volumetric weight.

How is Air Freight DHL volumetric weight calculated?

The volumetric weight is calculated on the basis of the size of your shipment and a weight of 250kg per m3 (formula: length x width x height in cm divided by 4,000).

How can I calculate weight?

1. Weight is a measure of the force of gravity pulling down on an object. It depends on the object's mass and the acceleration due to gravity, which is 9.8 m/s² on Earth.
2. The formula for calculating weight is F = m × 9.8 m/s², where F is the object's weight in Newtons (N) and m is the object's mass in kilograms.
