Tapetal cells consist of a large number of the nucleus and it is generally polyploidy in nature. Division of the tapetal cell takes place by mitosis and after mitosis cytokinesis does not take place and this type of mitosis is known as endomitosis and it results in the binucleate or multinucleate tapetum.

Is tapetal cells haploid or diploid?

Tapetum is in anther which encourages for the advancement of dust. it is diploid. Sporogenous tissue is available both in anther and ovule.

What are the two features of tapetal cells?

Tapetum is the innermost one cell thick layer of microsporangium wall. The cells of this layer are radially enlarged and store food. The cells are multinucleated and provide nourishment to developing microspores or pollen grains.

Are tapetal cells polyploid?

The cells are usually bigger and normally have more than one nucleus per cell. As the sporogenous cells undergo mitosis, the nuclei of tapetal cells also divide. Sometimes, this mitosis is not normal due to which many cells of mature tapetum become multinucleate. Sometimes polyploidy and polyteny can also be seen.

What is the function of Sporogenous tissue?

The function of the sporogenous tissues is the production of the pollen grains. Explanation: The sporogenous tissues are located in the microsporangium of the young anther. The sporogenous cells undergoes meiotic division to form the microspore tetrads.

How tapetal cells could become bi- nucleate?

What is Sporogenous cell?

Sporogenous tissue is a group of cell which differentiates into microspore mother cell or pollen mother cell. Sporogenous tissue is the compactly arranged homogenous cell in the microsporangium found in young anther. Each microspore mother cell undergoes meiosis and gives rise to haploid microspore.

What does the Sporogenous tissue produce?

The anthers are tissues that contain spore-producing cells called microsporocytes or sporogenous tissue. These pollen mother cells undergo meiosis to develop into pollen grains.

Why are tapetal cells polyploid?

Tapetum cells possess dense cytoplasm and generally have more than one nucleus. They are polyploidy. The tapetal cells show an increase in their DNA content. ... - Polyteny: If DNA replication is not accompanied by the splitting of chromosomes, polytene chromosomes are formed.

What are Ubisch bodies mention its function?

Ubisch bodies are the small acellular structure of sporopollenin. They are present in cells of tapetum and help in the development of pollen grains. They are of lipid nature. They appear in the cytoplasm of the tapetal cells during the spore wall formation.

How the tapetal cells which form the innermost wall layer of microsporangium could be Binucleate?

Tapetal cells are very large cells with many nuclei. They help the pollen grains grow and develop. Tapetal cells undergo endomitosis where the nucleus in the nuclear membrane divides, but cytokinesis does not occur. Therefore they are bi/poly nucleate.

What is the role of tapetum in anther?

Tapetum is the innermost cell layer in the anther, which surrounds the developing pollen mother cells (PMCs) and/or microspores supplying nutrition and enzymes required for microsporogenesis and pollen maturation.

What is the composition of Intine?

The intine, or inner layer, consists primarily of cellulose and pectins. The exine, or outer layer, is composed of a highly decay-resistant chemical called sporopollenin.

Can you think of how Tapetal cells could become Binucleate?

Complete Answer:

Division of the tapetal cell takes place by mitosis and after mitosis cytokinesis does not take place and this type of mitosis is known as endomitosis and it results in the binucleate or multinucleate tapetum.

What is the ploidy of Binucleated tapetal cell?

one mitosis occurs in the tapetal cells; it produces a binucleate diploid (2 X 2n) cell or a 4n cell depending on whether mitosis is acytokinetic (AM) or restitutional.

Are Synergid cells diploid?

Synergids are produced by the mitotic division in the haploid megaspore of a diploid plant. So synergids of a diploid plant are haploid.

Which type of cell division occurs in the cell of Sporogenous tissue to form microspore?

When the anther develops, each cell of sporogenous tissue functions as microspore mother cell (MMC) which undergoes meiotic divisions to form four haploid microspores .

Where are Ubisch bodies produced?

Hint: These are produced by a layer in the anther wall that consists of radially elongated cells and each cell of this layer contains a viscous and dense cytoplasm with one prominent nucleus or many nuclei. Complete answer: Ubisch bodies are also called orbicules and are produced by the tapetal cells.

What are botany Ubisch bodies?

Ubisch bodies, con-peito grains) are small acellular structures of sporopollenin (known size range from < 1 μm to 15 μm, but usually sub-micrometre) that might occur on the inner tangential and radial walls of tapetal cells.

What is Pollenkitt in biology?

Pollenkitt or Pollen coat is a sticky substance secreted on the surface of the pollen of Entomophilous flowers or the flowers pollinated by insects. The flowers pollinated by insects and animals are usually of bright colors, scented, and produce nectar. Examples - orchids, antirrhinum, primulas, etc.

Why are tapetum cells dense cytoplasm?

The cells in tapetal layer of anther wall have dense cytoplasm and conspicuous nuclei as these cells are metabolically active and store food. This layer provides nutrition to the developing microspores (pollen grains).

What is the role of tapetum in the formation of pollen grain?

The tapetum is the innermost layer of the microsporangium. It provides nutrition to the developing pollen grains. It secretes enzymes, hormones and special proteins for the pollen grains to recognise compatibility. It also produces the exine layer of the pollen grains, which is composed of the sporopollenin.

Why do tapetum cells have more than one nucleus?

Cells of tapetum have dense cytoplasm and more than one nucleus. The binucleate(with two nucleus) or multinucleate(more than two nucleus) condition arises due to fusion of two uninucleate(one nucleus) cells of tapetum.

What is Hypodermal cells in anther?

In angiosperm ovules and anthers, the hypodermal cell layer provides the progenitors of meiocytes. ... In a normal anther a hypodermal cell divides periclinally with the inner cell giving rise to the sporogenous archesporial cells while the outer cell, together with adjacent cells, forms the primary parietal layer.

What is the function of Sporogenous tissue and Tapetum?

The tapetum is the innermost layer of anther wall and surrounds the sporogenous tissue. It plays an important role in pollen development, namely nourishment of micro-spores and formation of exine.

What are Archesporial cells?

: the cell or group of cells from which spore mother cells develop.
