What is a gastrojejunostomy procedure?
A gastrojejunostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an anastomosis between the stomach and the jejunum. It can be performed in either a hand-sewn or a stapled fashion, either open or laparoscopically. Some centers have even created gastrojejunostomies endoscopically.[1]
In which surgery part of stomach is removed and remaining portion is Anastomosed to duodenum?
A partial gastrectomy surgery is followed by a surgery to create a connection (anastomosis) of the remaining portion of the stomach to the duodenum (gastroduodenostomy) or the jejunum (gastrojejunostomy) of the small intestine.
What is the Billroth II procedure?
Billroth II, more formally Billroth's operation II, is an operation in which a partial gastrectomy (removal of the stomach) is performed and the cut end of the stomach is closed.
What is billroth surgery?
Billroth I is a type of surgical reconstruction that has been performed after partial gastrectomy, usually in the setting of tumor or ulcer resection. The key feature of a Billroth I reconstruction is the formation of an end-to-end anastomosis between the proximal remnant stomach and duodenal stump.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a type of weight-loss surgery. Weight-loss surgery is also called bariatric surgery. It's often done as a laparoscopic surgery, with small incisions in the abdomen. This surgery reduces the size of your upper stomach to a small pouch about the size of an egg.
What parts of the GI tract are Anastomosed in billroth I?
The Billroth I operation is a type of reconstruction after a partial gastrectomy in which the stomach is anastomosed to the duodenum (Fig. 12.2A). The gastric resection is usually limited to the antrum, and a truncal vagotomy is often performed in conjunction with the resection.
Is duodenum removed in billroth 2?
In a Billroth II reconstruction after a partial gastrectomy, the duodenal stump is closed and a gastrojejunostomy is created (see Fig. 12.2B). This type of reconstruction is commonly used for complicated peptic ulcer disease or localized gastric antral carcinoma wherein extensive resection is required.
Why is a billroth 2 done?
Billroth II gastrojejunostomy is a procedure that has been performed for tumor or severe ulcer disease in the distal stomach.
Why is it called Roux en Y?
The Roux-en-Y is named after the Swiss surgeon César Roux (1857-1934), who was Chief of Surgery at the county hospital of Lausanne and following the opening of the new University of Lausanne, in 1890, was its inaugural Professor of External Pathology and Gynecology 4.
What is the name of the procedure used for removing a portion of the stomach?
A gastrectomy is a medical procedure where all or part of the stomach is surgically removed.
What is a vagotomy and Antrectomy?
All types of vagotomy can be performed at open surgery (laparotomy) or by using a minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic or robotic). For the management of PUD, vagotomy is sometimes combined with antrectomy (removal of the distal half of the stomach) to reduce the rate of recurrence.
What type of surgeon does gastrectomy?
Who performs a gastrectomy? The following specialists perform gastrectomies: General surgeons specialize in the surgical treatment of diseases of the abdomen, including appendicitis, hernia, and gallbladder, stomach and intestinal diseases. What happens to duodenum in gastrojejunostomy?
Gastrojejunostomy is a surgical procedure to create a direct connection (anastomosis) from the stomach to the middle part of the small intestine (jejunum), bypassing or removing the beginning part of the small intestine (duodenum).
Who performs a gastrojejunostomy?
Recovery from a gastrojejunostomy procedure takes about six weeks. A gastrojejunostomy is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia by a gastrointestinal surgeon. The surgeon produces a direct connection (anastomosis) between the stomach and the jejunum, part of the small intestine.
Is gastrojejunostomy a bariatric surgery?
Background: The laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) has been considered a reference procedure in the bariatric surgery. The linear-stapled gastrojejunostomy (GJ) has proved to be safe and effective, but its optimal size referred to postoperative weight loss remains poorly understood.
Why are Gastrectomies done?
Your surgeon may do this surgery to treat diseases of your stomach, such as cancer. It is also done to treat severe obesity. There are several types of gastrectomy. Total gastrectomy removes the whole stomach.
Why is Jejunostomy done?

Depending on the length of jejunum resected or bypassed the patient may have resultant short bowel syndrome and require parenteral nutrition.
