First, any RGB fan has TWO cables from it. One ends in a standard female fan connector with either 3 holes or 4 in it - depends on the fan motor type. This is for the MOTOR of the fan. Then it has a separate cable much wider that ends on a 4-pin connector, OR a 3-pin connector like the 4-pin but with one pin missing.

Why do fans have 2 cables?

The SATA power cable (coming out of the fan controller) is needed to power the fan controller and the fans connected to it. The fan cable you see (3-pin male) is there to plug in ANOTHER fan, should you choose to add another.

How are RGB fans connected?

Bring the 4-Pin dual connector. It is an essential tool for a motherboard without a header. Now, insert the 4-Pin dual connector to the RGB fan's pin slot cable. After that, the slot-cable has a way to connect, insert the other remaining end to the RGB fan's controller.

How many pins do RGB fans use?

Most components use a three-pin RGB connector to function, although some components like memory don't require it at all.

Can I use a splitter for RGB fans?

The 1-to-3 RGB Splitter Cables allow users to connect three RGB LED fans and strips through a single motherboard RGB pin header, offering expandability and flexibility needed to build up aesthetically beautiful lighting systems.

Motherboard Connections Explained

How many RGB fans Can you daisy chain?

Available in either Black or White, these fans utilise a single control hub with four inputs, each capable of controlling up to 4 fans each, making it possible to have up to 16 RGB fans connected and controlled by this one hub.

Can you connect a 3 pin RGB to a 4 pin header?

You can plug a 3pin into a 4pin header for Fans but not ARGB You can't. 3-pin ARGB headers are 5V with a 5V pin, a single data pin, a blank spot and a ground pin. 4-pin RGB headers are 12V with 12V, red, blue and green pins. Plugging an ARGB strip into a non-ARGB header will blow out the strip.

Where does D RGB fan plug?

Champion. It has one "standard" 3-pin female ARGB connector to plug into your mobo JRAINBOW header, a male connector of the same type to be used for other devices (tape this up to keep the pins from shorting out), and an output connector you can plug you fans' ARGB cable into.

Where do I plug in RGB fans?

Use RGB Y-Cable to connect the fan and the motherboard. Please use RGB 4-Pin connector to an RGB header, and 4-pin fan connector to a fan header on the motherboard.

What is VDG?

The VDG is for some of the Gigabyte and Aorus motherboards that only used the 3 pin connection. other brands all used the 4 pin connector and Gigabyte swapped to that style on the more recent boards. You need to use the same connector that it shows for other brands that uses the 4 pin connector with 1 pin missing.

How do I connect RGB fans to PSU?

You will find one with a 6-pin connector on one end marked "Perif", and that plugs into the corresponding socket of the PSU. That cable has THREE female 4-pin Molex output connectors on it, and you should plug one of those into the power input connector of the fan controller in your case.

How many cables do case fans have?

It has 2 cables. One that can attach into a 3 pin socket & a much larger one that has 4 pins at the end I'm guessing is a Molex.

What cables do fans use?

Power connections

Most cooling fans will connect to a PC with a standard connector of some sort. Modern systems will typically use 3-pin or 4-pin dedicated fan headers, though standard MOLEX 4-pin peripheral connectors are also used. From left to right: A 3-pin connector, a 4-pin connector and a MOLEX connector.

What type of cable do PC fans use?

Connectors usually used for computer fans are the following: Three-pin Molex connector KK family. This Molex connector is used when connecting a fan to the motherboard or other circuit board. It is a small, thick, rectangular in-line female connector with two polarizing tabs on the outer-most edge of one long side.

Can I plug RGB fan into Argb header?

Yes, you can do exactly that. I have to assume the one light strip on the ARGB header is ARGB, and the two new BitFenix fans you cite are also ARGB type. Connecting the lighting portions of those three items to a single ARGB mobo header is normally well within the header's power limits, so no problem.

Do RGB fans need a controller?

The "Rainbow" 3-pin headers are Addressable RGB (ARGB) connectors. It looks like you're installing more than 8 lighting units and you only have two ARGB connectors and one RGB connector...so you need either splitters or a controller. A controller has additional power (SATA) to run several units.

Can I plug case fan into RGB header?

Since it has NEITHER type, you cannot get ANY fan to plug into a mobo lighting header. Your only option would be to buy and install a separate third-party ARGB or RGB controller. IF you plan to do that, since you already have a light system of the ADDR RGB (or ARGB) type (3-pin, 5 VDC), just get that.

Can I plug a 5v into a 12v RGB header?

Without question the 2 versions of RGB are not interchangeable and do not work together. Plugging 5v circuit into 12v header may cause damage to the product you are plugging in.

How many pins is Argb?

First, we connected the ARGB Cable (it's got 3 pins, shown below) and the Fan Power Cable Splitter (ignoring the Asus and Gigabyte connectors) to the appropriate connectors on the fan cables. The ARGB and Fan Power connector types are clearly marked on the cables with white tags.

How many LEDs are in a RGB fan?

That's roughly 26 LEDs total (Not 26 fans).

Can you daisy chain 3 pin RGB?

If you buy a 3-pin RGB splitter you should be able to daisy chain them together to run off of one MOBO header.
