• Polystyrene (PS) ...
• Polyurethane (PU) ...
• Santoprene. ...
• Kostrate.

What plastic can be blow molded?

Low density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Polycarbonate (PC), Polystyrene (PS), Co-polyester, Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Nylon, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) are the main resins utilized with blow molding.

Which type of plastic is not used in blow molding?

Which of the following plastics is not used in blow molding? Explanation: For blowing processes, there are certain plastics only which are properly suited for the operation, while any other material might fail. Hence, for operating through blow molding process, polypropylene, polythene and PVC are used.

Why pet Cannot be extrusion blow molded?

14.41). Some materials such as PET and standard PP homopolymer are difficult to impossible to extrusion blow mould on a commercial basis due to their low melt viscosities.

Extrusion Blow Molding - Lesson 1 - The Process and the Equipment

How do you tell if a product has been blow Moulded?

Extrusion Blow Moulding is the simplest type of blow moulding. Evidence of the process can often be identified on bottles by a thin rim running vertically around the surface of the bottle left by the split mould.

Which of the plastic Cannot be extrusion blown?

4. Which of the plastics cannot be extrusion blown? Clarification: The common grades of PET(Polyethylene Terephthalate) cannot be extrusion blown. Extrusion blow moulding is widely used with the following resins: HDPE- High Density Polyethylene, PP- Polypropylene, PVC- Polyvinyl Chloride.

What is difference between blow Moulding and injection?

The major difference between injection molding and blow molding is the kind of product produced. Typically, blow molding is designed to produce hollow, singular containers, such as bottles. On the other hand, injection molding is used to produce solid pieces, such as plastic products.

How many types of blow Moulds are there?

In general, there are three main types of blow molding: extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and injection stretch blow molding. The blow molding process begins with melting down the plastic and forming it into a parison or, in the case of injection and injection stretch blow molding (ISB), a preform.

Why are blow molds so expensive?

When something is rare and there is a demand for it, it's hard to come by and often very expensive. With the rarity of well-maintained blow molds also comes the fact that some of the original companies that made these products are out of business. This makes them even more collectible.

What are the disadvantages of blow Moulding?

• Limited to hollow parts.
• Low strength.
• To increase barrier properties, multilayer parisons of different materials are used (thus not recyclable)
• Trimming is necessary to make wide neck jars spin.
• Limited to thermoplastics (rotational moulding can be used with thermosets)

Is blow molding cheap?

The costs in blow molding are lower as compared to injection molding. Machinery costs are typically lower as well. One-piece construction so that there's no need to connect part halves, which can achieve shapes that injection molding cannot produce.

How is blow molding done?

The process involves heating a plastic tube (known as a preform or parison) to its melting point and then putting that into the cavity of a mold. They then use compressed air to inflate the molten plastic like a balloon so that it takes the shape of the mold but is hollow inside.

What is the most common type of blow molding process?

Perhaps the most common type of blow molding process is extrusion. With extrusion blow molding, plastic is heated until it turns from a solid state to a liquid state.

What is extrusion blow molding?

In extrusion blow molding (EBM), plastic is melted and extruded into a hollow tube (a parison). ... Air is then blown into the parison, inflating it into the shape of the hollow bottle, container, or part. After the plastic has cooled sufficiently, the mold is opened and the part is ejected.

Is extrusion the same as blow molding?

Blow molding is a specialized type of plastic processing used to create hollow plastic parts. The extrusion form of blow molding is a manufacturing process whereby plastic is melted and extruded into a mold.

How much does a blow mold cost?

A single cavity, extrusion blow mold suitable to produce up to 100M units per year may cost as little as $3,000. An eight cavity, extrusion blow mold with automatic detabbing equipment may cost as much as $25,000 but may generate sufficient cost savings to return the investment within a short period.

What is the difference between extrusion blow molding and injection blow molding?

Extrusion blow molding (EBM) is a manufacturing process whereby plastic is melted and extruded (that is, expelled to form a shape) into a hollow tube; a form or mold. ... Injection molding is also a method of manufacturing products and parts by injecting material (such as plastic) into a mold.

Which of the following is not an important factor of cooling in extrusion?

5. Which of the following is not an important factor of cooling in extrusion? Explanation: There are various factors of cooling, a few of them are, reduction in shrinkage, reduction in distortion and the rate of cooling too has to be considered. 6.

How does blown film extrusion work?

The Process

Plastic melt is extruded through an annular slit die, usually vertically, to form a thin walled tube. Air is introduced via a hole in the centre of the die to blow up the tube like a balloon. Mounted on top of the die, a high-speed air ring blows onto the hot film to cool it.

What are the Moulding defects?

• Flow Lines.
• Sink Marks.
• Vacuum Voids.
• Surface Delamination.
• Weld Lines.
• Short Shots.
• Warping.
• Burn Marks.

Can pet be extrusion blow molded?

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

PET is a polyester that is usually injection blow molded into clear containers. While it isn't impossible to extrusion blow mold PET, it is less common, as the resin requires extensive drying. The largest PET blow molding market is for soft drink and water bottles.

What is EPET?

PETE is an extrusion grade variation of the base resin PET. The molecular weight is higher in this form of PET allowing a parison extrusion.
